Default Cheap programming for Hitec digital servos

I posted in another thread regarding programming digital servos, and how useful it was. The responses convinced me.

However, the most well-known standalone programmers from Hitec for their digital servos is quite expensive -- the HP-20 runs around $150 at most retailers, best price at ReadyHeli for $110 (they're out of stock, of course).

Well, there is a much cheaper solution from Hitec -- the HPP-21 and HPP-21 plus. Both are PC-based, so there's no display or anything on the device. Rather, the displays and settings are managed through software on a PC. I like this much better anyway.

Further, the plus version has a primitive interface (no display)for doing field programming without a PC present, so it is functionally the same as its more expensive, deluxe big brother. I finally found a source online for these, and the prices are really good. So, if you have Hitec digitals, and want to add the flexbility of programming them but have been put off by the high price of the HP-20, this may be your solution:

HPP-21:

HPP-21 Plus:

$25 and $45 bucks respectively, at Advantage Hobby. Just ordered an HPP-21 Plus for meself

Can I ask if you have USED these products to do the same servo programming and compared? Or just some research online and came to a conclusion?

The latter. I'll be the Freak guinea pig.

I think the risk low, though. I can't imagine that the PC software interface is more cumbersome than the standalone interface.

We'll see! I'll post a comprehensive review after I get it.

Getting it is going to be the real trick... Retailers are hard to find, and those I have found are all backordered.

Probably because AFAIK they haven't actually been released.

And Hitec can take a WHILE to get products out. The HS-5065s took over a year.

Well not quite a year. I saw them announced about November 2007 and then later saw "samples" at the AMA Show in January 2008. I videoed that segment

So it wasn't quite a year but damn close!
