Default Digital Servo Programmer for Hitec HS-5065.

What is the general feeling with regard to programming digital Servos like the HS-5065's using the Hitec HFP-20 or similar.

Is there much advantage to setting the equivalent of subtrim and end points for each servo using a programmer, as opposed to setting up in the transmitter?

With some radios in some modes, using subtrim can cause some interactions. By programming the servo, the radio won't generate these interactions.

And Hitec has two new smaller, cheaper programmers coming out. One requires a compute, the other can be used connected to a computer or stand alone, using button presses and a knob.

Got any links to the new cheaper alternatives Terry?

Maybe centre the servos whilst fitted to the heli using the programmer so that the arms are at 90 degrees and leave the subtrim in the radio at default.

The servos can be programmed for travel in the same way as end points in the radio? so could leave the radio end points at 100?

Might be a pain setting up one servo at a time though.

Any thoughts?

Used one on my TRex 600 on the cyclic servo's to set up mid points, works very well but does take time. The other use right now is the servo's on my (being built) A109 for the unsercararage in that I can slow down the servos and reverse one servo of the pair.

I used 5065's on my copterx and had to use subtrim to get them at 90. I have some servo interaction that I can't totally get rid of. if there is a cheaper programmer coming out I will definitely get that.

Could do with something like this but for Hitec Servos.

Spectrum DSP $24.99

(Doesn't say in the spiel below, but rcuniverse has a thread that suggests it can do end points etc)

Now you can program your Spektrum micro servos to enhance their performance for specific model set-ups.

* Servo reversing
* Three point programming
* Dead band programming
* High speed input
* 3 servo modes

Spektrum?s Digital Servo Programmer offers the ultimate combination of precision and customization for digital micro servo users. Features like 3-point programming, high-speed input and three servo modes make the Digital Servo Programmer perfect for park flyers, micro heli pilots and indoor foamie pilots. The DSP allows users to program their servos for optimum operation in whatever function they need, and the customization potential offered by the Digital Servo Programmer lets micro servo users experience the precision and smooth response offered by larger servos and aircraft without sacrificing performance.

This is the one that only works hooked up a computer: http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HPP-21

This one allows stand alone opertion: http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HPP_21+Plus

AFAIK they aren't actually shipping yet, but they did have them at the AMA Show a couple of weekends ago. Tower shows them as order pending.
