Default Edge 100, edge 130, talon 90

Between the 3 esc which would be the best for the 500? I have the talon on the way but now am reconsidering it because of all the reports of failure. I'm going to be running the quantum motor and the bk servos.

I hear far more positive reports then negative about the talon. I use it, and even though only a few flights so far it's more then adequate.

I agree with this. There will always be failures in every electronic. The number of talons out there seemingly quadruples that of the second place runner. So of course there will be failures. All I can comment on is based on MY experience. Which has been nothing but great. I have 150+ flights on my talon and no complaints. It runs cool to the touch and has served me well. If i were running a scorpion I would probably change it. But with the quantum, and my experiences. Set it up right and make sure its not hot, and you're good to go.

If I had to pick between the 3 listed, I would choose the 100. But you will need a BEC with the 100, and not with the talon. I ran the talon for a couple hundred flights, then went to a edge 100 with bec pro. I like the 100 better since I can check logs and it seems to run a little cooler.

Im running the edge 100 with bec pro as well.love it, runs cool and logging is a big plus. The 130 I think would be over kill for the gob 500

Any one wanna share there talon 90 settings? I'm running the quantum motor and wondering if changing setting via castle link will bring the esc down cooler

What headspeed do you want? What type of flying do you do, Sport(loops rolls), mild 3D (tic tocs, piro flips), Hard 3D (stick jamming crazy)? What batts you running?

I have to pull my setting on my talon up but have it at 2100,2200 and 2400 on stock pinion and mild - hard 3d I plan on running the biggest pulse Lipo I can fit

First off, get yourself a 16T pinion, that will get you to 2400rpm(IGNORE the castle rpm warning, its not even close to right). 17T will do 2400~2600 or so, and a 18T(stock pinion would be for 2550ish~2800) I have tested all 3 pinions, at many headspeeds ranging from 2000 up to 2800, flying aggressive, on both Talon, and the EDGE 100. no issues with either ESC, as long as your not over geared they both work like they should. DO NOT use a 19T pinion with the talon, 19T will be geared for 2800-3000rpm, this will cook your esc, motor, and batts if your flying hard.

Best to use the smallest pinion p[ossible to get your desired headspeed, this will net you the best efficiency possible, which means it will run cool as it can for your headspeeds.

PWM-8 - worked great on both the Savox 4750, and the Quantum 4120

Timing, 0~6 depending on how much power you will need for your exact style of flying. I would not go over 6 as the talon will get pretty hot after 6 if your really jammin the sticks. low numbers on timing for castle esc's will give a little less power, but more efficiency/flight time, and cooler ruinning power system. So if you want cooler, try 0~4 on the timing. Try the lower numbers first, and raise if you need more power, that way you will run most efficiantly for your specific needs, no use running 5 if one only needs 2. Everybody will be a little differant in the castle timing category. Castle timing is unlike other esc's, your motor will usually run perfect at 0, or at 9 or 10, only the higher the number the more power and harder on the power system over all.

Gov gain, 10~15 is good.

If your using 520ish size blades (especially EDGE/RJX as they are not the most efficient blade, so they work the ESC/motor/batts harder), I would not use anything more than a 16T pinion and 2400RPM max, or the talon 90 will not like it.

I run an edge 100 as well with 520 blades, ext bec and full size servos. It barely fits. I don't think the 130 will fit without modification.

I used the edge 130. Cut off the mounting tabs and slid in from the back inverted. It literally snapped into the frame so snug I used no straps or ties. When I say perfect fit... I mean it was like a lego set. I said "no f*ken way dude" its a perfect fit.

Edge 100 with Western Robotics Super BEC mini G2. It's a beast. I have the white wire sending rpm signal to my Ikon for Gov.

Was running an Edge 100 with a CC BEC Pro for about 25 flights. Edge 100 decided to take a dump last week. Plugged it in and nothing, no beeps, nada. BEC was still putting out power but ESC said no way. Ran the Scorpion 4020-1350 on a 16T Vbar Govd at 2700. Was running like a champ till she quit out on plug-in. Sent it back to Castle.

Saving up for a YGE-120...

The edge 130 will fit with the kde battery tray upgrade.

Think the 130 and the 120hv r same outside. If u take the frame apart u don't have to touch a thing. And like you said the mounting couldn't be more exact!

No, the Talon HV120 is much bigger and won't fit. The 130 will if you cut the plastic tabs off.

I was speaking of edge products! Both 120hv and 130lv castle edge esc's will fit with zero modifications. I've run them both in 500's!

Okay, sorry. I saw a YouTube video where the guy said he had to cut the tabs off. I tried to fit a Talon HV120 in mine but it's not even close to fitting so I just ordered an Edge 130 and BEC Pro. I was running a Talon 90. It overheated last weekend. I flipped it over and enlarged the vent opening on the canopy hoping that would help but when I spooler her up, the BEC gave up the ghost. Glad it happened on the pad before I took off. That would have sucked if I lost the BEC in flight... -Joe
