14MZ Trainer setup - HELP
I´m trying to setup my 14MZ to use as "master" against a 9CAPS on a T-Rex 600N.
I have copied my 600N to a "600N Buddy" and changed all the channels in function, so that they follow the 9CAPS convention. Question: - Do I have to setup an EXACT copy of my 14MZ 600N in the 9CAP to make this work, I thought the 9CAPS could be virtually empty and just bind to the heli programmed in the Master transmitter? Aparantly it isn´t, because i.e. if I change a servo reversing or haven't got the exact same swash values or throttle curves in the 9CAPS as in the 14MZ, I can see the changes once I activate the trainer switch. - IF this is really so, wow then every minute correction done by the trainer in action will have to be corrected on the 9CAPS also to apply - damn irritating. I'd appreciate some feedback. KR/Henrik

Hi,
When you choose which chanel to use in trainer menu ther are 3 different way of controling the student: 'Normal' is when the student will have full control. That means the student radio must be set to fly the heli by itself. 'Func' is when the teacher have full control. Student radio just control chanels that where assign to it. In this case you just need to set a new model in swash mode H1 with no particular settings. 'Mix' is like 'Func' but when student receives control, teacher still can control everything... That means that both pilot can move stick together and control the heli... Student radio is better set like in 'Func' mode as every settings from both radios are mixed together. In every case student radio modulation mode must be PPM and chanel mapping must be identical. With a 9C that means chanel 1 - aileron, chanel 2 - elevator ... But I think you already got this. What you are looking for is 'Func' mode. But even then trim for the chanel controled by the student must be set on both radio. Regards, |

MZFAN, thanks for answering, and yes I do understand this, BUT do I have to set up a heli completely on the 9C as identical to the one on the 14MZ to be able to use all 3 types of trainer function?
If choosing "NORMAL" I thought that the only thing you had to do was assign channels correctly and then nothing else on the 9C - however, if I use an "empty" heli model set on PPM, as soon as i flip the switch on the 14 and the 9C has control everything on the heli moves - swash, settings, throttle response etc. /Henrik

Normal mode is normaly used with student heli and radio (9C) that are both already set to fly. Curves mixing and other must be set. In this case you have to do the same with the teacher radio. It is easier when you can copy model from one radio to another. If it is not possible then you will have to set both and fly test both radio settings before using trainer cord.
if the model is already set with the 14MZ (teacher) then you would better use the Func mode. In this case you don't need to set anything on the 9C (student) except a new HPM model in PPM. |

MZFAN, thanks again. Well, this is what puzzless me: No matter if I use FUNC, Normal or MIX, I still have to have everything minutely set in the 9C also.
I have made a new heli model and set it to PPM and SR3 swash (T600N). Then I thought that I could just move on - but with an "empty model" like this, the sticks at center when I then flip the trainer switch, i.e. the swashplate will jump up and down the throttle arm will move etc. No syncronisation at all. If I then try to fiddle with a throttle curve moving the points up and down the throttle servo will move according to this and NOT according the curve on the 14MZ. Maybe I'm stupid but I just don't understand this. /Henrik

Anyone else out there who uses the 14MZ trainer function with other transmitters and have experiences they might share??

I think I saw your mistake.
With 'Func' mode you must set the swash type to SWH1 on the 9C even if your heli is in fact SR3 type. All your curves must be let as they were: straight from 0 to 100. With this mode setting on the student radio is really fast. The only inconvenient is that only the teacher will control idle modes, student has to ask teacher to swithch to idle or back... |

Couldn't wait:
YES it works! 1) set 14MZ on trainer and all functions to 'FUNC' (Those that you want the student to control - others set to OFF), set trainer switch 2) Set new model on 9CAPS: Heli HW1, PPM and nothing more (all curves are by default straight 0-100%) 3) Fly! (teacher 14MZ will have to switch flight mode from hover to IDLEUP 1 or 2 as apropriate) KR/Henrik

Thanks for posting the solution.
Ancient thread- but since I'm a dinosaur now, I have fasst module in my 14mz and am going to attempt this with an 8FG super. It's for my son to learn so I don't mind setting everything up so he will be able to fly with his radio in time. But it appears setting nothing is the way to go. Hopefully they are this easy still. If anyone else has experience with this can you tell me if it is in the training mode where the trainer regains control when just moving the sticks? or does he have to flip out of that mode ? Thanks, Steve |
