Official Gaui X7 Build Thread

I'm finalizing my order now. Right now I have the 4035-500 motor but I have time to switch it to the 4035-560 if I act today. Should I do that? I see that it's rated for more watts and amps, but it seems like it would force me to run at least 2200 rpm on the head without really socking it to my esc.

What was your target RPM, and which controller will you have?

If using a CC, set rpm will be around 2126 with 10T/560kv, other ESC's will operate more efficiently at around 2250rpm, but you could certainly run 2000 without "socking it" to your esc.

The 500kv with CC is around 1900rpm, jive/vbar around 2000rpm.

Or an 11t pinion. That's what I did. Gives the gov some overhead.

I was able to get some flights yesterday on the X7! I can officially confirm that the "X5 Grin" carries over and can now be called the "X7 Grin"!

The X7 minimally configured with VBar+ Spektrum satellites and Scorpion ESC/BEC and 5100 mAh 65C packs weighs in at only 12.2 lbs. It feels super light in the air. Flips and rolls are crisp, precise and axial. The collective response is smooth and linear feeling with plenty of stopping/starting power!! The whole helicopter is smooth and vibration free!

The X7 hangs in the air well and you don't have to force it to do anything. The low head gives it a compact but large feel and the long tail is a great visual cue.

In running the VBar governor with the Scorpion ESC, a headspeed of 2250-2300 feels incredibly powerful! I did try a headspeed of 2450 and the X7 really has presence there. Quickly moving the disk off hover plane results in a deep thump you can feel in your chest! It's so cool! I flew mostly at around 2300ish and with the excellent performance of the Scorpion/ VBar governor, it was plenty of power and very fun to fly!

The tail held well with 95mm blades. I think if I stay at 2300, I may go up to 105mm tails and see what that does.

I'm very excited to fly more and will post some video as soon as the the weather cooperates or I'm able to find a camera person who doesn't mind freezing their butt off for 5 minutes.

Here's a Fromeco DC-UP MarkII to take a little load off the BEC. It just plugs into any open spot on the VBar power bus. It takes about 10 seconds for the capacitors to drain just sitting idle. This would not be a good choice as a backup power source, only to ease the load of the BEC by helping with back EMF and current spikes.

I'm also going to try a 1300 mAh 2S LiFe buffer pack. This will plug into any open spot on the VBar power bus as well. This would be a good choice as a backup power source and to ease the load of the BEC by helping with back EMF and current spikes.

When I get the battery in I'll post pictures and a review. Also note that you would one of the two choices and not both together.

Ya dude, the X7 in nice!

Yes, using the built-in Scorpion BEC and it's been working well. I actually settled on a buffer pack, 2S LiFe 1100mAh. The DC-Up worked great as well but I wanted to backup in case of a power loss.

Yes, I flew my T700E at 2300-2350.

FWIW, I too am running a Fromeco DCUP like yours. I am running Kontronik 120HV in my Compass 7HV with Vbar on a pair of Spektrum sats. I felt the Fromeco is some simple insurance against brown out. I have also corresponded with others who have had enough juice to land upon power failure just from the capacitor bank in the Fromeco.

Note:
In order to improve the convenience for assembling the main rotor head, the thrust bearing cap (with bigger inner race) is preassembled into the main blade grip. Please assemble the thrust bearing as illustrated in the manual (P. 24).

PS:
If the thrust bearing of main blade grip you got is not preassembled, please make sure the thrust bearing cap must be driven in parallelly into the main blade grip.

They are referring to the inner thrust bearing race. It has a OD of 7.98mm, the outer race OD is actually 7.68mm, the inner race is actually a "press fit"and does not simply drop in.

Assembly your thrust bearing set, Inner race, middle race, outer race, drop into the grip, and use a socket or large allen key to press into place evenly. Use a flashlight to check flushness against the inner seating of the grip housing. Failure to do so will result in serious issues down the road.
