Default How does the GT5.1 compare to other major brand FBL controllers?

Question is for those who've used other brands like Mikado Vbar, BeastX, MSH Brain etc.

I hope a Pro chimes in, I've been interested in the answer to this question as well.

I'm sure many of the Pros have tried all of the FBL units. Bert Kammerer says he's tried all of them and never ws happy with any of them because he had so many years on a FB machine. Then he helped developers perfect the MSH Brain to his liking and guess what, he likes it. I think I'm going to try one of those next. My GT 5.1 is working very good right now and its the only FBl controller I've ever used. I'd bet that most FBL issues are in setups being off just a little in key places.

They're so much more complex than a single axis tail gyro. Also the FBL setups are very much affected by different head speeds where as the FB heli didn't care what head speed you ran long as everything was balanced.

What kind of comparison do you want? I really like mine, I have flown Vbar and BeastX too. Its different to set up then those 2, but a display makes it really easy on the field.

I would say (but this is a personal preference) that it flies at least as good as a Vbar if set up well.

There is another Raptor guy - JR Yung Ju that uses the GT-5. His flying is amazing.
Check it out here at a show

I love the move he does starting at 2 minutes. The first time I saw it I thought darn he crashed but there was a deep large ditch there so it just looks like he crashed.

Here is one of him flying a Nitro Titan X 50

Another Raptor G4 E 720, he can tear it up, the Gt 5's not holding him back.

Thanks for finding those videos. I guess it's up there with the best of them.

Absolutely man! I searched a lot and have not found too many. There's one on a 6HV that's flying extremely well also.

A handful of folks don't like the gyros because of limited mounting options. You have to have enough room to operate the touch pad from the front or back only and have room enough to plug the wires in from the front or back only.

My wires are aggravating to plug in but hey I don't have to put hot glue on them the way they are.

The other thing some folks don't like is the touch and tap pad. Sometimes it takes a few extra taps to get a page to open or close. Once you get it set right though its not going to have to be fooled with much.

MSH Brain, Ikon and TracX have blue tooth access available to the gyro menu's which means you can program those with your cell phone at the field.
With the GT-5 all you have to do is land and make some adjustments.

I like the GT5, but unfortunately they really shot themselves in the foot with it: No firmware update capability, no governor, no throttle fail-safe, poor manual. Then they brought out the 5.1, alienating people who already flew the units, and worse yet, still haven't addressed these missing capabilities.

With a little better planning they could have been real competition.

That's wrong.. Gt5.0+5.1 are upgradeable to 5.2 which is actually short before release. Flying the 5.2 beta on my 5.0hardware and I am loving it..

There will be an upgrade adapter
There will be a pc software
There will be failsafe
There will be tail+head gains switchable from tx
There will be different types of sumsignal supported (sumd srxl sbus ppm dsm2/x std etc)
5.2 hw will have gyro+acc sensors(no self level yet...)

Still missing setup banks and governor..

Good news, I hope Gt5.2 will be upgrade anti vibration and log file like some FBL control have, at least as good as Ikon or Vbar .

My advice, stay away from it, once you have it tweaked it flies ok but its not as good as vbar or bx through piro transitions. While with many hours of tweaking you may get it to fly well its still very very user unfriendly and if you dont know a lot about setting up fless systems you wont get it right. just my opinion

Default Sv: How does the GT5.1 compare to other major brand FBL controllers?

I've flown Vbar, GT5 and currently Ikon and from my experience they are all great gyros flyingwise! They all have their strong sides for example I like the cyclic feel best on the GT5 and Ikon has the nicest tail while Vbar in my book is pretty good overall.

I must say I prefer the usbinterface type of programming over the GT5's though

The contact from TT Germany told me that it's being produced and shipped right now. Software 'd be finished. A dev from TT got a new one already. I think it should be there in about a few weeks (as long as they don't discover some new bugs....)

I personally prefer waiting a few more days, if the product comes flawless. (as we know it from TT)
I don't like paying for being a beta tester

Where does the update adapter plug in to the GT 5?
I'm glad they are adding more too it, I really like the GT-5 FBL unit myself.
Its the only one I've ever flown though so have none to compare it too.
I thought failsafe was fixed in 5.1
