How to setup Reflex for TOTALLY real experience?
I have been flying Reflex and I can hover easily (keeping the helicopter at one spot). But when I tried with my helicopter, I failed to control it and have some crashes. This is because I have been familiar with fine stick movements whereas my real heli requires a much more large stick movement. Therefore, can anyone help me in adjusting my simulator to get the real effect? This is crucial because a SIM can only contributing if the model heli is setup exactly the same as the real one. By the way, can I learn effectively if I fly a different heli in my SIM as in real life?

Your Real Heli is probably set up to lurner mode[slower head speed/less control throws/etc] The Sim one's are usually set for 3D.
Any Real Heli[or Sim Heli] can be changed how it feels or responds. The weather[Wind/Turblence] also plays a BIG part on how a Heli responds for a lurner. Experienced pilots hardly notice it and just react accordingly. Try turning up the wind on Sim a bit. What type of Real Heli do you have? Generally small Helis are much harder for a lurner to control than a .50-.90 nitro types. But just keep up the Sim practise[10mins morning and 10 mins at night is good] Regular. It will still take 8-12 months to be 'Comfortably' flying circuits in most weather. |

Thanks a lot for the information. I am flying the Belt CP (also my first heli). The sim heli I am flying is , I think, more sensitive than the one I own. I only need very small stick movement to control it where as with the belt cp I need more 'brutal' stick control. So the main idea is not getting familiar with the stick movement but the reaction when controling the helicopter. I also tried setting the wind with 180 degrees of variation and find that it is much more fun to fly than before.

There are two way to use reflex relating to radio and sim setup.
1.) The radio is setup for an airplane with simple 4-channel input for control and one for autorotation. The sim does the mixing for throttle / collective and swash. 2) The other way is to go into the sim and make some changes from the default settings telling it that the radio will do the mixing like on the real heli model. You turn off throttle/collective mixing and governor on the sim and set the radio up to do the mixing. The swash type needs to be set at "one servo" on my JR's. I think some use 90-degree swash and it works. This is the way to go for more realistic use allowing you to tune the radio sim to be more like your model or a real model. Either way you could probably add some expo to the rudder (or other controls) to get the stick movement more like your model. You will get bigger movements with less sensitivity around the center with more expo. |
