Default Batteries

Hey all, forgive me for asking such a stupid question but in currently out of 6s packs for my trex 500 (2200mah) but i have tons of 3s 1300 mah pack.
So i was wondering if I wired two 3s packs in series what flight time I should get?
I only want to get into a hover to double check everything is working fine and it doesn't need gain adjusting or anything. Thanks in advance Darcy

Short answer is 1/2 mAh = 1/2 flight time, but the discharge C rating may limit the head speed (are you using a governor?). To get the amps, the supplied volts may drop. If the volts drop, so does the head speed for a throttle setting (unless governed).

Unless I am mistaken, a 30C rating on a 1100mAh pack is the equivalent to a 15C rating on a 2200mAh pack (regardless of cell count). The discharge C rating is how fast you can pull current from the cells in the battery.

Smaller batteries tend to have a higher IR. The higher the IR, the more heat generated during current draw.

There is not a limit on the amount of current requested, just the current that can be supplied. Faster current draw, the more the battery heats up (bad for LiPo's :-) - Why we let them cool before charge and discharge - Internal flashpoints and all)

By wiring in series, you up the cell count (S). By wiring in parallel you up the mAh rating.

You can do it if you must, just watch really carefully (and limit flight time even more). No point testing a 500 if you send it up in flames.

Good call. Impatience in aviation leads to unscheduled landings.

What size 6s packs did you purchase? I hope you didn't buy 2200 mah packs for a 500.

2500 is a bit small. I tried the 2600 and found the flights too short. I went with the 3000mah and works great.

I have my timer set for 6 min. I actually get the longest flight time on my 500.
