Does anyone know the dementions of the old Zippy-H 3300 mAh 6s1p 20c lipo's ?

I'm thinking of buying the new 2650 40c or 3000 40c but i dont know if the new 3000 mah are the same size. I have the Trex 500 "Classic" with tray mod. The 3300 fits perfectly between the fame.

Spec.
Capacity: 3000mAh
Voltage: 6S1P /?6 Cell / 22.2v
Discharge: 40C Constant / 50C Burst
Weight: 524g (including wire, plug & shrink wrap)
Dimensions: 144x45x41mm
Balance Plug: JST-XH Discharge Plug: 5.5mm Bullet-connector

The 2650 are not on stock. And i want to use two of them in a Trex 600 aswell. I have seen people put 2x 550g on a 600 so that should not be a problem. But i dont know if this one will fit my 500 without cutting the frame.

I rather had the 2650 but i'm already waiting about 2 months for those.

Edit:

And just like that they are on stock got 8 2650 mah 6s1p comming over. Lower weight would be better for both the 500 and 600. Got enough lipo's and you can charge 5c so its not a disaster that the flight times are a bit shorter.

It looks like you found an easy way to turn your old style frame into the new style frame. Good job.

thats one of my special things A123 the one that i use is the 6 cell 19.9v 2300mah from A123 Racing ($89.00 some thing ) but with the 14t is not posible to fly in a good HS (1700 rpm) <> you have to get a 16t (2600 rpm) and it good to do some flips inverted hovering mild 3D.i haven't try the 17t.but flight time is pretty good 6 min flat.

At first glance this thread would seem to be all about capacity, but a lot of folks are evidently more concerned about what will fit physically, and how the heli performs carrying whatever the weight is.

So, simple really; could I please request that folks with the new frame state what the dimensions of battery they have found to fit. Should anybody have been unlucky enough to invest in a battery which didn't fit, it might be rather handy to hear about its dimensions too!

From what I've read the 500ESP tends to be a bit tail heavy, and so a weighty battery (say 560g rather than 450g) may be just what's needed to balance it. What weight of battery is considered ideal?

Also, for 3D (which I am only just starting to explore) are you better with a weighty battery, or a smaller one positioned as far forwards as possible? Given that for a given C rating a larger capacity battery will deliver more amps I suspect that this question may not be so simple to answer!

Thanks,

Steve

There's a point to where there is a trade-off for how hard the system has to work to carry the extra weight. You may get the same flight times with a lower capacity (lighter) batt, as you will with a higher cap. (heavier) batt. depending on the type of flying you do. Then "C" rating comes into play too....balnace the mah with the "C" rating for your application.

Some are trading shorter flight times for lighter helis to throw around hard. If you are just cruising, or just venturing into mild 3D weight is not as critical. It's something of a balancing act, depending on what you are doing, or what you want....flight time....or perfomance....or a little of both.

I know I can not articulate as well as some....so I'm not sure I put it right.

I hear what you're saying! It's a bit like choosing between a BMW M3 and an M3 CSL which lacks the power seats, climate control etc. Life is a compromise! Maybe the fact that I didn't choose the CSL means I should be getting fatter batteries? ;-)

On a more serious note, I can't help but wonder if the recent update to the 500ESP shifted the balance a bit. The "old" 500L motor is 650W/800W(30 sec), whereas the 500M is a rather more impressive 1260W/1470W(30 sec). Effectively doubling the power would seem to open the possibility of carrying a little extra weight. Presumably the lowered battery tray of the new frame shows that Align are expecting folks to be using bigger batteries to go with the increased power?

This rather makes me most interested in hearing what battery gives the best CoG (assuming that I can still put the ESC under the battery tray), working on the principle that that's something that must be correct, and having achieved that I'm likely to have struck the capacity/size compromise that Align intended for this model.

Would a newbie building a 500 esp be better off going with a standard battery or try going big? I gotta order some batteries soon.

Many different opinions here but at some point the larger batteries will be a trade off between weight and longer flight times.

I can tell you that the 6s 3000mAh 40C's from HK is top notch and works awesome. They also have perfect COG with the TT and ESC underneath the battery tray. The only problem is that they are so popular that the stock lasts for a few days at top. I ordered another bunch about three weeks ago when HK got new stock and it sold out within a day. I guess I was part of the problem...:o

Dang, just got my 3000mAh 35C from hk, they're wider than my 3300mAh I bought a year ago... so I had to cut the frame to get them to fit (last year I dropped the tray down about 1cm to fit the 3300mAh) but the 3000 ones are wider than the 3300 - I should've checked.
anyways, I cut the frame to make them fit..
the wires are like two or three times thicker than the 3300, and somehow I hard a hell of a time to solder them onto the deans connectors.
