Default Orlando Helicopter Blowout - December 11, 12 & 13 2009

I am once again pleased to announce our second annual fun fly in Orlando, Florida. This will again be held at the RCACF (Radio Control Association of Central Florida) field December 11, 12 & 13 2009.

This is a great location for a fun fly and the weather in Orlando in December is nice with very low humidity and average temps in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Lots of places to visit near by as well as Disney World of course if you decide to bring the family!

Once again we expect big names and lots of people! Last year we had over 125 registered pilots! The following pilots have already confirmed directly with me that they’ll be attending the event. Of course, it is quite early and this list will change drastically over the next few months. I’ll keep it up-to-date though!

Featured Pilots / Guests

Bert Kammerer
Jason Krause
Bobby Watts
Big D
Craig Martin
Steven Fox

We also expect to have several sponsors, which will announce them soon.

Also, B&B Hobbies and R&R E Models will more than likely be on site selling kits and parts!

Registration Info

Landing fees will be: $20 with pre-registration or $25 on-site.

Pre-registration

To pre-register, simply go to our site at http://www.torchs.org/ and click on "Our Fun Fly" at the top of the page, then scroll down a little and look for the "pre-registration" link to register using PayPal.

Event Schedule

Friday:
8:00 AM: Field opens
9:00 AM: Pilot’s meeting
8:00 AM - Dark: Open flying

Saturday:
8:00 AM: Field opens
9:00 AM: Pilot’s meeting
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Open flying
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM: Sponsored pilot demos
12:45 PM - 1:30 PM: Non sponsored pilot contest *
1:30 PM - Dark: Open flying
4:00 PM: Auto rotation contest **
4:30 PM: Raffle!
After Dark: Night flying

Sunday:
8:00 AM: Field opens
8:00 AM - Dark: Open flying

* This is simple, we’ll sign up pilots during the event who want to participate in this non sponsored pilot contest. Pilots will simply need to fly a 4 minute routine to music and will be judged based on choreography, placement, originality and technical merit. The winner will take home a trophy and a price from one of our sponsors.

** The auto rotation contest will take place at one of our flight stations, pilots can sign up during the event at the registration booth.

Hotel Info

See the flyer below for hotel information. We recommend the Kirkman/Universal area hotels if you want to be closer to the attractions. However, this is about a 25 to 30 minute drive to the field. Otherwise, the Altamonte Springs area has nice hotels and is about 20 minutes from the field. Finally, the Apopka hotels are not as nice, but very close to the field (about 10 minutes).

We are working hard towards making this a great event with lots of good flying.

Hope to see you all here!

I will make updates to the flyer as well as this page as they become available!

I don't know yet.... gonna see. The problem is if we go to Hawaii again that time of year which we do every year, then that will be a problem

I know Florida is great in Dec. and Jan. as I have been there then! But man.... just before Xmas and all makes it tough! BUT again I will see if I can talk the Wife into letting me go

Thanks for the videos Andres. Looking forward to seeing you there. Man, it was windy Sunday for sure. Saturday was good though, a little cool, but let's hope it will be warmer this year

We are trying to make it bigger and better this year, we will mow the grass more on the north side of the field to extend the flight line and get a couple more flight stations too

3D Contest

Alright guys, we're going to have the same 3D contest we had last year with one minor change. We will have the contest on Friday at 2:00 PM. same rules, simply fly a 3 minute routine to or with music, top 3 will move onto Saturday for a final round.

The winner will get a nice trophy and a gift certificate from one of our premium vendors, we will announce the vendor and gift certificate amount soon.

If you are interested, please shoot me a PM here. This will be a lot of fun, everyone should do it! Please note that the only requirement to enter this contest is that you must not have major competition experience, such as XFC or 3D Masters.

Looking forward to seeing some entries!

Hey guys, I'm not seeing as many pre-registrations as I'd like to see! What are you waiting for? It is a no brainer, pre-register, save $5.00 and get a free T-Shirt, so you're actually saving like $20.00. Just go to http://www.torchs.org/?page_id=219 and scroll down to the PayPal link to pre-register!
