I'm going to agree with mike...I think a lot of our kicks are due to static discharge...many belted heli experience the same thing.

try the grounding trick and see if that helps.....

that's assuming your tail holders have thrust bearings and everything is operating freely.

I think the OWB's have been being blamed for way too many kicks.

No - stock tail grips \ tail case - unthrusted.
Its odd that its just suddently started to occur when i run the Scorpion etc.

I will look into upgraded thrust bearing trail grips and the grounding trick as well if required.

I know that means that it normally means that the OWB is stuffed, but with that many replaced and now good quality OWB's - Can it be anything else ???

Once it does lock up and grab- the blades start to swing and spools up fine, but still has those small tail kicks in the air etc.

In regards to "lubing" the OWB - whats the generally acceptable belief? As yet, I have not especially lubed the OWB with ATF as I was told the Gaui ones dont like it...
bro try removing the top shim.in the updated manual they specify a single shim on the bottom.the owb needs a small amount of up and down play to work with
on the lubing thing...check with the bearing supplier and see what they say.
get some twrecks 600 grips...the thrusted ones...cheap as chips bro
the head speed calculator....just about no motor is more efficient than 85%.brushed ones are like 50% to 60%...brushless 85% is pretty close to the upper limit.i believe the new hyperion ones are a bit higher using curved magnets and very high quality materials, and the new scorps are the same thing...but not the 1210(i think)still is maybe only a 5% improvement.the reason people can appear to have a higher efficiency is because of the higher pack voltages initially....HOWEVER...if your packs are old the fact that they charge up to 4.2 means sweet f.a. they will have a high internal resistance meaning as soon as you load them up the voltage will sag...dragging your headspeed down...
the 3600 6s turnigy's look like a cheap replacement bro
but if ya want awesome...get the g3's

I indeed have decided to get some Turnigy 3600's, about 8 of them
Thanks for the shims info, I re-downloaded the Gaui 550 manual it it still has two shims. I will look elsewhere for another copy.

Most places recommend a one-way grease for them - but yeah no one seems to stock it. Apparently Thunder tiger make a brand. Next few days (after pay day) will see me of to a few bolt\bearing shops etc.

This is their web-site download - only has 1 shim http://www.gaui.com.tw/pdf/550(English).pdf

Hmm see.. now am i blind .. but this is the same document i already had.

There is a "correction" that indicates a change to the washers, two (W8x10.5x0.5) washers shown on Page 5, above and below the OWB on the plastic frame. Agreed - the "Correction" page clearly shows to reduce this number of W8x10.5x0.5 washers down to 1 .. not 2. Thats pretty clear, but its also for the plastic frame.

However on Page 13 - the CF Assembly (optional), shows two washers (W8x12x3.5). Note the different measurements for the CF Frame washers, again - above and below the OWB on the CF Frame?
OR - it could be a typo ???
That (W) really should be a "B" and its showing the placement of the bearings, not as different sized washers?

I really need to go measure those washers i guess..

I was not clear and spoke to Global C the Aussie distributors.
David M confirmed; 1 shim on the bottom of the OWB.
I had 2 originally and it was tight. Now perfect.
Try it.

Strange.. as mine heli came fully built with two shims - and I have stuck to that every rebuild, by Global in Oz I don't recall if - but maybe i got it before Gaui released their updated manual \ build instructions.

I put it up in the air yesterday, brand new but stock 20T Gaui OWB, new Shaft etc and two shims. After 3 packs, still no tail kick - but has developed a nasty vibe, could be related to another new issues, a squealing bearing again. Might have to double check that centre block bearing again with all the mucking around, it might be screwed again.

Either way - its progress hopefully. Will put another 3 packs through today to see if Tailkick stays away, then focus on fixing the other issues.

Well i am a beginner.. but hell yeah its got some nastiness to it
One of my more advanced friends test flew it and really, excuse the french, but its .. "got some balls"

More than 2-3 times did I go "$%#$%# #$%#$" just scared and in awe as he launched it straight up and flipped and did all these moves - with so much power etc.

Motor runs cool and packs are awesome compared to the Gaui SuperPig. Big step up for me.
