What's a London Eye? I don't think I have ever heard of or seen that maneuver lol.

Wow, that must be like just barely a London Eye by any standard, as the reversing makes the pilot so sloppy it almost requires too much imagination to 'see' what he is intending to do. You can barely see he is piro-ing at all. At least it doesn't look like rudder driven piro moves, per se.
The thing with the Piro Tic Toc is that if you can see a pause in the rotation, it is really only an approximation of the intended maneuver. That's what I see in the SIM video above. The tail actually pauses sometimes for half a second even. I'd like to see Duncan perform his best London Eye. Duncan doesn't even do reversing piro tic tocs yet, so I am sure most PTT claimers have alot of work to do even to match Duncan's mastery of that move, much less to progress to doing London Eyes or Reversing London eyes with any reasonable amount of precision. The most difficult maneuvers are those of which our imagination can easily model the perfect execution, but our thumbs have a hard time matching that expectation, or even approximating it. That's why I love the set maneuver the Reverse Piro X they do at Helimasters. I can see exactly how it SHOULD be, even if I have no way of flying it myself. So I can see when Kyle Dahl does it perfect, and someone else does not. Piro Tic toc is one of those moves that everyone can imagine done well, but very few ever actually achieve it. When Duncan does it, it is actually the tics and tocs that are hard to see because they are both so short and the underlying yaw rotation is so consistent. I guess similar to piro flips in one location in space, and piro flips that are three crashes high and move all over the sky. Both are piro flips, I guess. obi

Are there any videos showing the stick movements for mode 2 fliers? I see the video posted earlier in the thread, but that doesn't look right to me if it's mode 2.

The only video I have seen that shows the stick movements is the Bert Kammerer smack talk tic toc and piro tic toc video.

Guess I have a new move to practice. London Eye...pretty cool if you ask me.
I'll try tomorrow, if it turns out I can do it somewhat okay maybe I'll make a video for stick movements.

Thanks for posting this topic
I've now been able to wrap my head around a piro tic toc, somewhat lol. Last 2 days I've been breaking this move down and yes I pause at each tic and toc but I can really see this progressing now

Piro toc toc videos with stick movements are hard to find. Cheers for posting some.

To my eyes it looks like a half piro flip that terminates early?

Almost, yes. The 'outgoing' first half of the flip is the same as what many folks learn as their first half piro flip:
Start tail in, add a little collective, left rudder, and nose down. Transition to nose right as the tail comes around to 90 deg. Transition to nose up as the tail comes around to point back towards you. The piro tic tocs I did started exactly that way, except the end at a 30 deg from vertical tic-toc position. The main difference is that when learning 1/2 piro flips, the second half of the flip is away from the viewer also, while the toc is towards. As you can see in the first part of the video where it stalls out, I could have transitioned to flat and that is what you would have seen. EDIT: The above would be for a skids in-piro tic toc. The video was skids-out. |

AWESOME!!
Thanks to this thread and a smack talk video I just did my first ever sloppy piro tic toc on the sim. They were messy, but they were definitely piro tic tocs. Now to clean them up and try them IRL.

Great man [emoji106]. All maneuvers start from messy and slowly progress to perfect. My piro tic tocs also were all over the place at first but I stuck to it and now they are a lot better. One thing that really helped me with this maneuver is slowing the sim speed down to 75%, slowly getting used to what my fingers had to do and what is actually happening during a piro tic toc and then bringing it back up to 100% one step at a time.

The vid Code3Medic posted is for half piro tic tocs like Dunkan does; full piro tic tocs naturally have a full revolution per tic or toc.

I have been working on this for a couple of months now. It is easier for me to not "stir" as mentioned on the first page. I have to think through the move, and when you do that it will become easier when you do a quasi stir like with piro flips. But I learned piro flips the same way, actually fly through the maneuver instead of blindly stirring the sticks and hoping it works.
Also, check out Nick Maxwell doing piro tic tocs at last years helimasters. he did them skids in which seems even more difficult. Duncan has great piro tic tocs though, almost could not tell they were tic tocs at first.
