Default Remind me how to tune a nitro

Having not flown a nitro bird in 6-7 years, the deep discount on the X50f enticed me to buy it. I already have it together and put 4 flights in. I am using a Spartan VX1n as the FBL controller. Works great except for the tail. There is a slight kick on the tail. Almost like a slow wag but different. The tail holds well for say 15sec then it give a small kick to the right and center and hold another 15sec. Is this an engine tuning thing or should I play with the gain on my gyro. I thought I remembered that a poorly tuned engine can cause a kick. I was running the engine on the rich side.

The rest of my setup is YS50ST with Outrage muffler, MKS BLS980 on the tail and ProModeler servos on collective. Running the Spartan Gov. Current Gyro gain is at 30%.

In my experiences, the poorly tuned, or fresh, rich-running engines cause more of a drift than a kick. You have the torque tube version kit?

I have noticed that when my x50 is at that point where it is bouncing on and off the pipe it will have a small tail kick. Either richening it to get it off the pipe completely or leaning it to get it fully on the pipe seems to stop the kick.
