Cool! I've been looking for those! Only bad thing is now you lose the choice to run a full sized tail servo,

Hey,

Does anyone have any info about the parts that are actually new?

I can see obvious difference in the frame and head, how about the tail? Cos IMO thats the worst part about the 500... its a vibe collector, the grips have major play, and slop.

The initial drawings showed an upgraded tail, and helical main gear. This photo shows straight cut main gear, so who knows...

Yep, even actual photographs of a prototype guarantees nothing.

I figured since they went with straight gear for the 550, they would do so for the 500 also. Dunno why, it really works great on the 600Pro, but they have the extra motorbearing mount to keep the forces straight on the motor there.

Biggest change to flight would be the programmable head if that goes into the final cut.

Not sure I'd want helical gears- damn you've got to be 100% spot on with pinion height. Race car gearboxes have straight cut gears to handle greater torque. Family cars have helical because they are quiet. Besides we all know Align can't manufacture true main gears to save their life. Herring bone would be a better solution if they want to stray from the traditional IMO.

I'm for helical because of quietness. But as you point out there are new factors
when that cut comes into play. Like forces on the motor bearings change.
Seems like herringbone would require the most accuracy of pinion placement.
But I know nothing of the subject.

I wish align would do a 2 gear arrangment. Get away from 1 honkin' big gear
with potential to grind on the canopy.

I think that's the difference between a gear machined out of plastic as opposed
to a molded gear that gets popped out of the mold before it's cooled fully.
I agree.

The main gear looks helical to me. See photo below, I have adjusted contrast a little to enhance the gears.

I have helical gear on my 700, and I love the quietness. I sure want helical gear on my 500 too!

FBL, plus better tail, and these other changes would be terrific. Any sense if there will be a FBL version?

Default Trex 500E Pro - Speed Controller and Gyro?

It will be interesting to see who's speed contoller comes with it - Aligns or Castles?

Also - what is that device with the remote antennas coming out of it? It looks a little like an unside down 3GX unit?? Anyone recognize it? It isn't a spectrum reciever that I am familiar with and there does not seem to have been a gyro mounted to the machine. I don't recognize those remote recievers either. Hmmmm...

I hope the tail dont explode as it do on the ESP (blade holder bolt breaks).
You write that you cant upgrade to full size tail servo. It dont see why it cant be moved up on the boom as on the ESP?
