Thanks everyone. Have XT60's and a Hakko solder station on the way. Wish me luck, first time soldering!

THat thing is a nice piece. The color and shape are offputting but it works very well. Good luck with the soldering. The battery wires ome pretinned from the factory and rarely do they fit in 3.5mm bullets, I had to cut the tinning off, well at least on the four I have done.

Heat shrink. just remember to put it on before soldering the leads. And move it up close to the battery so that it doesn't shrink from heat while soldering.

Wait, which HAKKO did you buy? If it was an FX-888, go get something else lol. I have one of those but I use it to fix fiddly bits on PC boards. It hasn't the power for EC3's. I just tried it. You would need the patience of a Saint. Unless there is something wrong with mine. Seriously, does anyone have issues with the FX888 and EC3's? My Weller WLC-100 has more than enough power for these EC3's & 5's.

Hmm, yes, FX-888, Seemed to work fine for my XT-60's, even manged to solder 10 gauge battery wires to XT60's without TOO much trouble, a bit of a pain, but got the job done... Hopefully my joints on the batts hold up

Wrong tip? You want a largish chisel tip for connectors, rather different to the fine point I would use for electronics stuff.

The tips I have on the irons are similar. Small chisels. The Hakko gets hot, it just cools off faster than the Weller. Im used to Instant constant heat. The Hakko was a little delicate. Could be something wrong with it though.. Dunno, works fine for finer work.
