Strange behavior. ESC? OWB slipping?
Im flying a trex 800. CC hv 120 ICE. ALL Stock except for CC cap pack and HC3sx.
The heli has been flying great! However I was out testing the bail out of the HC3sx the other day and had an unexpected loss of power. Auto'ed down and all was well. After looking over the heli I couldnt find anything a miss and I chalked it up to hitting throttle hold by mistake?! Since it was on after the auto (however this could have been done second nature) The next time I went flying at the end of my first pack had the same thing happen, this time was just flying the field, no testing. Auto'ed in fine. Confused I spooled it up on the ground and tried to lift off, same thing. It seems to be a power loss, almost like the OWB is slipping because I can rev down and then without cutting the motor spool up and it still "slips". Although if I shut down completely then it will spool and fly just fine. Also I put another two packs through it and it flew perfectly! ??? Soooo I checked the ESC logs, nothing out of the ordinary, didnt hit any cut offs nothing. Took it home, tore it down checked the OWB solid as a rock, two hands cant get the thing to budge. Little back ground. The motor seems hotter than it should after very easy flights. Havent took a reading but very hot to touch. Also, sometimes when I spool up the rpms seem to momentarily jump and make a high pitched sound but then go back to normal and spool up just fine. Id say this happens once every 5 or so flights. Is this all a bad esc? Any ideas would be appreciated, Im at a loss. Thanks guys |

It's intermittent so expect that testing once by hand, the OWB will hold
Consider that there is a high pitched noise, this would be associated with slipping. It's also the cheapest place to start. |

What you are after is the one or two correct responses, not the 50 guesses. Which mine was, a guess. I don't fly the 800 Class. My response is typical of what you would have read if this had been left on the Main Cheers, Mike |

Ok.. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I pulled the owb last night. And dissassmbled. There were no visible signed of slipping. The collar and the case were not damaged at all and there were no scratches or lines that might indicate slipping. Either way I did the red locktight and set screw mod to be 100% sure. Any other ideas on what this might be? I hesitate to really start flying this thing until I'm sure I've found the problem.

Did you notice any lube on the outside of the OWB case? And are you able to tighten the six bolts that hold the case together? Many of us have had issues with the OWB in the Trekker. Mainly the bolts being pulled out of the threads. I noticed small amounts of oil on the outside of the case. Below is some info on the issues.
Here is a video of a OWB failure. Lube on the outside of the OWB case. The fix was to replace the aluminum case with the KDE stainless steel case. Have had hundreds of flights without any issues since.

Ya the bolts were tight and could be tightened again after I modded the thing with red lock tight. I didnt see any lube but I want looking. Im going to try flying it with the lock tight and if not ill go with the KDE. Ive seen all the problems and so im hoping this is the fix, it just didnt seem that there was evidence that that was the case.
