Default The boom is expensive!

I ordered the G4 servo arms and metal bearing blocks for my X50 build from Amazon. I noted they have many of the parts for the heli. Happened to see the carbon-wrapped alum boom. Whoa! $46. Goblin boom was just $2 more! Hope I don't need another for a while! Funny - by comparison, swash is only $29. Go figure.

Can anyone verify...is the X50F kit with blades and RL engine/pipe combo a belted tail version, or torque tube? And does it come with the carbon sleeved boom, or the plain aluminum boom?

X50f comes with a torque tube and carbon boom. They sell an aluminum boom for $8. I had a tip over on my maiden and broke the boom that it came with. I was blown away at the cost of the boom too. So I used the aluminum boom for all my test flights. And put a new carbon one on once it's dialed in.

Well, mine arrived today. Nice kit. I went flying my Compass birds today (perfect 75F, sunny, no wind) and my friend flew his Raptor 30V2. It has RJX FBL head and BeastX. I was envious of his smoke trail - LOL. All about having fun! Then, come home, find the X50 (engine, pipe included) and the Hatori SAB-1 waiting! Yeehaw! (YS 60SR already arrived). I plan to sell the RL53 and Hi Flow pipe as new.

That's a decent idea sorting with the $8 boom, then on with the bling later.

I don't know why a lot of thunder tiger parts are being Discontinued.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAYMB&P=Z

you can't get the turnbuckles for the FBL head links the ones with the wrench. they have been Discontinued. now they are just regular links with no nuts on them.

can't get TT V2 carbon blades 3878 they have also been Discontinued. I love these blades.

dose anyone know why?

Good question Joe. I am curious too.

I thought the Ti links would be cool. But, they are way too tight in the links to use the wrench in my case. They pop off the balls easily before the adjustment can happen. Regular links are much easier to adjust. I don't think the precision of turnbuckles is necessary for a weekend stick banger.

I know what you mean about the links but I found a way to adjust them by moving them on the ball. I wish I can find some blades that performed like the 3878 blades. I don't think I will ever find a set of blades like them.

I've seen your posts about the blades. Are you referring to the ones in the kit which are plain carbon finish?

Thanks. There are several R50 booms. Do you know the part number?

Titan / Titan SE boom : PV 0521

If you follow the link to a previous post of mine, it has a R30 - R50se comparison chart attached, very handy :

I have a couple of brand new swash plates for the x50 I could share one if needed.

It looks to me like all the carbon booms from TT are costly. Not a big deal though. I also noted the thrust bearings are $30/set. Yet, I saw a swashplate assembly for $28.99.

I would get them from boca bearing before paying that much for thunder tiger bearings.

Not to be too picky, but that Titan SE boom mentioned isn't carbon. No doubt way cheaper, but not a cheaper carbon option.

I've also since this thread noted several TT X50 prices going up. The swash is now $50. I won't discuss their parts pricing on here again!

Personally I don't believe in "bling" the CF tail is metal wrapped with CF. What is the point, CF is supposed to be used to make lighter components but in this case you are adding weight. If I ever need a new tail boom I am ditching the CF one permanently.

To each their own, right? I prefer the bling, at least until I waste it, LOL. The carbon boom is a nice looking feature in my opinion. To me, it looks like it belongs with the carbon frames. Maybe I'd like the aluminum boom better if it were black.

I guess I should clarify what I mean. There is no problem with bling but paying more money for a boom that trades wight for looks isn't worth it. Its like ricers who cover there car in stickers for performance products. Or stick on non functional hood scoops and vents. They just make them look ridiculous (although the carbon boom looks nice). I post pictures of those cars on the internet so people can laugh at them.
