Default Monitor

Hello

I have a Helicox TG-1 on my storm 460, and am woundering if the monitor on the G-box (TG-1 program box) is a must-have-right sort of thing?

The manual says at centre of all sticks, the numbers should all say 0, mine are all 1-5. It says to use subtrim to correct the monitor numbers back to 0, but if I use subtrim the servo arms go off 90 degrees, and if I add subtrim to the rudder to get it to 0 the rudder will constintaly move. (I already have 5 right rudder sub trim to stop it from moving). All my servos were setup with 0 subtrim.

So does the monitor have to read 0 at center sticks, and 100 at all end points? ( with my sticks at all endpoints none of the monitor numbers show 100 either

Thanks, Hamish

You are using subtrim rather than the trim tabs on the front of the Tx, right?

Set the subtrim to read 0 on the monitor, then restart the gyro.

Yes I am using sub trim, but using that to get 0 on the monitor just un-levels my perfectly setup swash, and when I add subtrim to the tail to get 0 it just continuously moves in the direction I added subtrim.

Here's a thought, could I set 0 using the subtrims, turn off gyro, then will it hold that last monitor thought (of 0) so I can change my subtrims back then restart the gyro? Or will that just muck up the monitor again? Simply put, does the gyro "save" the last monitored setting when the G-box is plugged in, or will it change every time I add subtrim?

Thanks, Hamish

Every time you turn on the gyro it learns where the center pulse is on all channels. So, set the subtrim to see 0 in the monitor, then turn off the gyro and when you turn it back on your swash will be back to level.

Ahh! Fixed it! Thank you!

But now a new problem lol...

My pitch has gone all funny.

To get 100 on both end points for the monitor, I had to ajust my pitch servo travel. And thanks to that, I now have 100 on both end points on the monitor, but my pitch is bonkers. I don't have + and - 12 degrees pitch like I did, and at mid stick my pitch is about -3 degrees instead of 0 which I had before using travel ajust to get theonitor right.

And yes, I know I can ajust "collective range" in the g-box settings, but that just allows me to get EITHER -12 degrees pitch OR +12degrees pitch, but not both at the same time.

How do I fix this now?

Adjust 0-pitch mechanically by tweaking the push rods. Then use collective range to get 12* on one side of the pitch range. Use the travel adjust on the radio to get 12* on the other side.

Ok thanks Dr.M!

One thing though, won't adjusting the travel on my TX just change the monitor end points again? Right now I have setup my travel to get 100 at both throttle/pitch end points on the monitor, changing it to get 12* on the other side will just change the monitor again?

Thanks for your help though, I really do appreaciate it!

Yea just tried it, and when adjusting servo travel to get -12*, it changes the end points from 100 in the monitor. So now what?

At this point ignore the monitor. Setup of these things is a tiered process. You gotta start at the bottom and move up, you don't go back. So, first adjust Tx subtrim and ATVs for 0, and respectively 100 on monitor; then servos at 90°, push rods, swash level, pitch links, 0° pitch, equal pitch throw on each side...

Ok I started from the start, and I cannot seem to get an equal pitch throw (+&-) by just using the collective range and adjusting swash hight.

What am I doing wrong here?? Servo arms are all 90* at mid-stick, monitor shows the right numbers and the swash is level. It looks like the only way to do this is to muck up the monitor and ajust servo travel in my TX to get the right pitch values?

yes, sometimes that's the only way. Remember all these devices are not perfect, they all have some error, including your Tx gimbals, the radio signal processor, receiver, FBL gyro, as well as pitch gauge. When it all adds up, you can have even the most perfect mechanical setup have a bit of difference at the very top end compared to the other extreme.

Again, don't worry about the monitor screen once you're past that point of the setup process. Make the blade grips do what they're supposed to and the blades will follow, so your heli will fly fine.
