Default Car Batteries / Deep Cycles The Same Chemistry?

I can charge my deep cycle with my i3010b and I was wondering if I could charge my car battery using the same settings.

I drained my car battery leaving my lights on and didn't want to drive it around to get a full charge...can I hook it up to my i3010b and charge it that way?

So far as I know, they are both the same, as far as charging voltage goes.

Things like AGM batteries are different, however.

I'd do a slow, gradual charge, if you have time. My $20 lead-acid charger is 1.5A, and I know slower charge rates are easier on lead-acids (I think deep cycles can take higher charge currents than starting batteries?). If it were me, and I had time, I'd do something slow, maybe 2A or similar, and charge that way. Faster may be fine, but most batteries prefer slow.

Use 10A charge rate (1/10th C to be exact)

Well tried it but the battery is deader than dead. Voltage is showing up at 8.0 V. Looks like it's going back to Autozone.

If you can, try charging with two car batterys in parallel. Use jumper cables between them and hook your charger to either battery.

will that work with a deep cycle and a car battery in parallel?

Looks like it's working... Hopefully that car battery will still hold a charge

I found out about that trick recently.

I once had a spiral cell I discharged too far down and thought it was bad. Was probably a happy guy at autozone when I traded for a new one.

"car battery" and deep cell are the same chemistry, different hardware! the deep cell has much thicker plates.

Let it charge long enough that way until you can charge the down battery by itself.

Sometime you need to equalize deep cycles to restore their health and capacity.. read about it here. (I don't think this applies to car batteries).. you will hear them bubble and fizz the whole time. I have an older car charger than can be manually set to not turn off (both 12v/24 modes) and it works great for this.

car batteries don't really have many mah at all.. they are made for very shallow (but FAST) discharge... now deep cycles do have a lot of mah.. mine have 100,000mah (100ah) and are made to discharge deeply making them perfect for charging and boats.

You will kill a car battery discharging it. Unless you leave your car idling than you are really using the alternator and that's better

I've got the car battery voltage high enough that the icharger will charge it by itself now. Voltage has been staying at 13.2V for a while now. Should I just let it keep on going? It's at about 3.6A
