Default Help with Spektrum DX6i Receiver used on 50 Frenzy

I am going to use the Spektrum DX6i Transnitter with the AR6200 Receiver on the TZ 50 Frenzy. What battery pack will be OK to use? Is it the Spektrum 1500mah battery pack?

Any suggestions if another battery can be used.

Thanks,
Lenny7118

1500 mAh would be OK for standard type servos and moderate sport flying. Higher draw servos and harder 3D type flying would require a larger capacity pack. I fly a JR 2700 mAh pack. Having a lesser pack could lead to a brown out with that receiver , BUT that is a whole other issue.

You may want to do this mod to your 6200 to make sure you can get enough power to your servos http://sites.google.com/site/tjinguy...fing-up-ar6200

I'd also use something like a 2500 mah life or lithium ion pack or a 2S Lipo with a regulator. That little nimh pack that comes with spektrum radios is inadequate to fly a .50 size heli.

Default 250mAh per 50' size flight

Hello,

Completely agree with the advise given

As you seem to be a novice, let me give some simple information to understand the whole better:

1.) use only 2/3 of a LiPo's energy before re-charging, so if you install a fully charged 3000mAh LiPo (2s = 7.4 nominal voltage) you will make use of 2000mAh only ..

2.) per flight of a typical 50' size bird with typical servos (as e.g. Align DS610s) you will use about 250mAh, flying flybarless-system expect twice as much so about 500mAh. Larger birds as 90' will use more mAhs per flight ..

3.) So to speak our example above: 3000mAh 2s/ 7.4V LiPo with 2000 mAh at your disposal, using 250mAh per flight .. will give around 8 flights ..

4.) Use some safety margin, e.g. charge after 6 to 7 flights ..

It's tempting, to believe, hey, putting a 4000mAh LiPo power package on-board, I will have many many flights. IMO a Lipo about 2500mAh to 4000mAh, the first for non-FBL 50' size birds and the latter for FBL-90' birds makes sense.

A further source of energy consumption are the on-board ignition systems (e.g. 2-in-1). Knowing about that, never understood why Align started with 1700mAh LiPo in the combos and then having dealers telling the people they can fly around even if only orange/ red-lights are on ?

Summary: depending what bird, with or w/o FBL, with or w/o on-board ignition consider some LiPos > 2'200 mAh .. additionally check the weight required to balance your bird well .. compare prices/ brands .. and make a choice..

Best Regards,
Oliver

For the gyro's sake...it it better to run a lipo/life than a nimh pack? it seems like the nimh pack would let the voltage wander more.

What a fantastic bit of information, as while it may sound straight forward to some, it really helps a lot of us plan re just how many flights we can get off our NiMh packs (being as my NiMh charger does not have an electronic read out, so I never had an accurate idea of exactly what I used after 2 flights for example)
Thanks Oliver!.
