Great looking machine! Go fly that bad boy, enjoy and repeat! They are amazing in the air and will do anything you ask. Is that the 105 motor?

Thank you. I just hope that I will always ask of it to do the correct maneuvers. LOL.

Just to add - I actually would have never thought of building a nitro bird and a Thunder Tiger product to boot. But after taking in a few lessons with Todd Bennett he convinced me that they have a place and the Raptor G4 is one of the best (I guess he being sponsored by Thunder Tiger would be pushing their product). I am very happy about the build, quality is better than Align products (I still have a 600e and 700N which has been converted to FBL electric).

It is the 91HZ-R. Thought it would give me better mileage.

I also have the raptor x50 FBL, a G4 e720 FBL and a Goblin 700. I STILL fly the nitro G4 I have a lot, it is my primary machine (that and the x50 I guess). I am running a YS 91 in mine and get 10 minute flights of moderately hard 3D. You just can't beat all that stick time. I think of my electrics as the place to knock out a "routine" where my nitros are the "just keep flying" birds. Nothing moves you forward like stick time.

1st lesson learned yesterday: Didn't install the fan and retainer nut secure enough on the motor, backed out and locked up against the clutch housing.

Will try firing it up again today.

Hopefully it just did it while you were trying to start it? Good news is that getting the motor in and out of that frame is a piece of cake :-)

Yes it was very easy to take the motor out! Yes it happened while trying to start it!

Fixed

Ran 1 tank of fuel today (all the time I could spare).

Lesson 2: I used the softest / spongiest Microbeast mounting pad. Thinking it would work the same as on my 700E. Duh! Maybe a little more vibration on this bird. Changing it tonight and try again tomorrow.

Lesson 3: Have to learn how not to flood the motor when shutting it down. Another duh! Pressurized system working well.

Ran 2 tanks of fuel today - just hovering. Want to make sure that we run in the motor easy. Probably a little overkill. Next time out, going to lean in the motor.

So far so good. Starting to understand engine start up quirks (process).

Sure nice heli......

Have you secured or hot glued those connectors into you Beast X. They have a bad habbit of coming out if not.

Cheers,

Simon

Default Raptor 90 G4 FBL

Had a mishap, unintentional blade stop about 100 feet or so off the ground last week. Replaced main blades, landing gear, tail boom and upper links.

1st tank of fuel the revlimiter would not work properly. Changed the glow plug. Flew flawlessly after.

I've flown a total of 8 gallons of fuel on this heli, all I can say is WOW this is one nice bird!

Very nice looking Airkid! I just passed the 300 flight mark on one of my G4s and I'm still completely in love with it. Get ready for a long relationship with a great heli :-)

After 14 gallons of fuel......motor quit during flight.

Damage - tail boom, tail torque drive, tail control rod and main blades.

Turned out that the motor rear bearing is worn out. Note to self.....do a motor overhaul after 12 gallons.

I still love this heli. Good thing I have my new X50 which has about 1 gallon of fuel through it so far.

Just to add I just noticed that Great Planes have discontinued this kit (4894-K10 Raptor 90G4 Nitro Flybarless Heli Kit). I wonder why......

Only the motor quit or it stopped reacting?
Mine crashed after 16 flights due to some electrical problem.. I flew about for 5min, when in piroflips it just stopped reacting, engine cut off and it fell from about 40m straight to the ground.. Damage: landing skids, header with the support, blades, reciever battery, tail hub and some light scratches on the canopy.. This heli is incredibly robust machine!
I still did not figure out what it was.. I blamed the Gryphon regulator but it would not fall into hold.. so i changed the TX antenna and changed also power cables on the Gryphon..
I have done two flights on it so far and works well so I very much hope that problem is solved and i can keep having fun with my tiger

The motor literally died in flight. When it happened I was bringing it down slowly (autorotation) until I lost sight of it......

Have taken the motor apart and definitely chunked (not bad but you can feel it being coarse) the rear bearing. Replacement Bearing coming in soon, with a couple extras.

I wonder if they are going to quit building Nitro at all? I hope not!
I was thinking about buying one as well!
