Default 2010 SOCAL Helifreak Fun Fly! Oct. 2nd and 3rd

He all this is to announce or 2nd annual Funfly for 2010.. This was the OCMA Helifreak Funfly last year but this year we have moved to another larger and better venue to allow camping on site, 2 day event, and night flying. We could not get this agreement from the OCMA venue so PVMAC gladly picked up our event for 2010

Our AMA sanction is in the mail so I figured it is time to officially announce the funfly!

2010 SOCAL Helifreak Funfly will be the first weekend of October. Saturday and Sunday October 2nd and 3rd. People are allowed to show up Friday of course and spend the night Friday and Saturday night. Will James owner of Helifreak will also be flying out to support us!

Jerome put together a web site explaining all the details and allows for pre-registration, Vendor registration, etc. It is somewhat still in the works and the vendors, etc will be updated and they come along.

Here is the SOCAL Helifreak Funfly Website:
www.schfff.com

We are also working on a flier and will have that out soon.

Prado (PVMAC) field is in Chino Ca. and not far from where last years funfly was located. See the web site for directions. This site is beautiful! It has a 800 by 50 asphalt runway which will allow for more pilot stations and better spacing than last year. It has tie downs for 30 canopies or EZ-ups... Motorhome / Camper overnight parking will be right there at the site!

Check it out! This is one of the BEST flying sites in Southern California! I know of no other with this kind of space and facilities!

Hope to see you all there. We are working hard to try and make this the best funfly in California!

When we planned the date 2 months ago, Jerome and I looked at all the funfly calendars on Helifreak, Runryder and AMA Website and this date showed as open.

Later when someone told us it was the same date (which we still couldn't find officially) we looked to see if another date worked better and there was nothing open that also worked with the PVMAC club site. We did find a date in late July but I can tell you it would be so hot at PVMAC it would not be fun and it would also be just before IRCHA which wouldn't work to well....

Sorry to book on top of their funfly but we did not know about it at the time and this is the best date we could find.

Hmmmm good question. They banned turbine airplanes a few years back when there was an issue with the Chino Airport 5 miles away during a turbine event called Best of the West. I know they still don't allow turbine airplanes. But a Tubine heli might be allowed maybe at least for a demo. We will have to ask.

FYI, I just checked both the Runryder events calendar and the Helifreak calender and the Sacramento funfly is still not showing up? Have they officially announced it anywhere?

No clue but it has been the first weekend of October for the last two or three years. I think that it won't hurt either, we are talking a 10 hour drive between the two. The amount of people that would attend one wouldn't attend the other, other then me lol.

Last year event at OCMA turned out to be the premiere ff event on the west coast with wonderful supports from Helifreak, RcDepot, KME, Gyro Hobbies, MTA Hobbies, ReadyHeli and many others. This year will be better with 2 fun-filled days and 1 awesome nite-fly.

Don't count on me for a turbine demo.. I'll be at the MCAS Miramar Airshow all weekend supporting Team Oracle.. (and possibly the Miramar RC Flyers)

Looks like an awesome field... Wish I could make it...

So here are some questions I don't really see explained on the website (some may not want to be, heh!)

1. Camping.
I see its $10 to stay over night with an RV. Or is this for all vehicles? So $10 to pitch a tent? Or are tents excluded / gotta do a hotel?
1A. Any small like miniwinnie RV rental places? (I dont own a truck) nearby?

2. Beer
At night once a person is done flying is a beer allowed for him/her?

3. Cigarettes
Allowed?

1) I dont think they allow tent camping but we will find out. If not right around the corner is Prado park with nice green grass a lake, etc and they allowing camping.

2) Beer... We will ask but just in general a AMA sanctioned site usually says no because of insurance, etc. I think if your discrete about it while RV'ing in the evening it's not going to get you in trouble. Way beck we did when we stayed the night but we also were the only ones there.

3) When I was flying there regularly we all smoked but they kind of were upset when people threw butts all over the place. Again we will ask but I think thats OK just don;t be a pig

Okay cool ill look to rent a little mini motorhome for myself and my buddy.
I always find the club "coffee can" for my butts or I push the cherry out and put it in the trash.

So I guess I just have to worry about my excessive oral flatulence

Hey YOU were the one who flew it 2 miles away! You should have stayed in your tail-in comfort zone or let Anthony fly it.

Definitely looking forward to seeing some heli pilots out there for this event. Maybe it will encourage some others to come out on a more regular basis.

I'm there 2 or 3 Saturdays a month and rarely (if ever) see any heli's. It gets a little lonely sometimes!! But its also nice to have the whole heli site to myself
