One of the bearings in tail block pulleys started screaming on Friday, so I changed them both today. This is one hell of a strange heli... A year of flying and this along with head dampers is all the maintenance you have to do. Unlike anything I've flown before

Another way to install YEP60/Himodel 60 ESC (just a T plate of carbon).
A really good ESC !

As I´ve not flown anything else I would find it strange to do more. I´m spoilt forever.

Default What did you do with your Mini Protos today?

Staring at it for 15 minutes straight. Looking upward prevented me from drooling.
It is on the closet until wify gives the green light for the build process.

Previous owner seems to had a nasty crash. The tail-blades look pretty eaten up and judging from the leftover bad bearings and thrust-bearing in the box tells the main head also took a beating. I found both the boom supports to be cracked in the middle. I think i can epoxy it back to strength. Prev owner diddnt notice that and told me he "test flew" it before selling, to make sure the heli is ok. My thoughts were like: ."ffs, don't touch my heli! "

Love the Fusno canopy that came with it. Also the stock one is supplied, but need the ear fixed. Lucky me, I think its an easy fix. I think the canopy accounts for half the price i payed for this empty kit (but with SAB blades)

Default Nope..

No video's. Happens on panic landing attempts. It is better to hit a tree lightly then try and avoid it and crash it into something else faster.

When the weather gets better, I am going to try and fly at this field near my house where the State tore down a rental property. THe driveway is still there so it has a good take off and landing spot.

Full damage analysis on my used purchase. My jolly what has this dude been smoking while assembly and flying.

Besides the obvious cracked supports struts, the tailboom is bend, one tailshaft bearing gritty, too short bolts in tailblades, Small bearings in pinion and Y-arm are shot, so I modified the Y-arm to accept larger bearing. Stripped nut on jesusbolt (plied it right off with my fingers ), jesusbolt is S-shaped. Two mainshaft bearings gritty, Swash follower arms tightened so hard so it crushed a bearing. Wishbone arm really tight on swashfollower arms. still needed to be sized properly. Some scraping on the bottom of the mainshaft , because the bolt that goes in the maingear snapped in the crash and it seems the motor was still running.
Had to flush the swashplate ball with contactcleaner to remove some sort of thick yellow residue (WD-40 leftover?) and lubed with teflonspray.

Good thing i stocked up on bearings beforehand, and there are some spares in the box i got with it. Ordered a new boom and pinion bearings and added a few spares like featheringshaft and tailshaft,Head dampners. Forgot to order extra main grips .

Still have to disassemble the tail and main spindle assembly. The grips on the mains are tight, so i wonder what I'll find in there.

This heli will sure be glad with his new owner. its gonna purr so sweet when i'm done !

If the price is right I see no problem in used purchases. Just be prepared for the worst. Another Protos saved, and the rebuild is part of the fun!

Few more great flights this morning... Getting more and more risky with it, flirting with disaster. When the mini is set up perfect it just begs to be pushed. So much fun

Thanks to msh-direct I'm already back in the air, but learned the hard way to goop servos into fbl unit... The Heli won't fly like intended when rudder servo unplugs mid flight.

concerning rudder servo:

... tried the wellknown mks ds95i at the tail for the first time - its awesome.

... hopefully it stands the beating as long as the good old 9257 (about 75 hours flighttime... ... and the only reason for replacing it was a broken wire, not the servo itselfs...)

My mini went down in a gym yesterday. I clicked throttle hold pretty quick but it was still a hard encounter with the floor. Damage assesment - a speck of reflective sticker peeled off one of the blades and some blue paint stuck in landing gear bolts Four more packs of half piro flip practice followed... I wonder how much luck do I have left

Default Hee Hee!

Yes, Can you beleive there was no damage? I flew it for an hour after that. Those are those HK360 blades. Not a scratch on em. I just had to pull a few bits of tree out of the belt and clean the green stuff off the blades with Windex and it was back in the air. Great training heli. I love it.
