Trex 450 Pro build videos

I have shot a bunch of stuff this weekend to PROVE using many other helis how the geometry should be. Now I need to shoot the problem and the solution!

Try to get in touch with Jason Krause... he designed it! Can't believe he and the pros would let this slip. I noticed it when setting up my tail too........ BUT it does fly really nice despite!

Hey guys...first off thanks for all the useful info. I have my 450 pro on order and am looking forward to the build (and flights). While, waiting for it to arrive, would someone please recommend anything I need to buy for the build that is NOT in the kit. I have my radio (DX7 and AR6100) and a 3s 11v lipo and thats it. So any other supplies and or things I should buy in advance would be helpful, so I dont delay the build once it arrives.

If this info is covered in the videos, please ignore the request, as I will download them tonight to watch at home.

If this is your first Heli... then...

Charger + Balancer (if not built in)
Pitch Guage (must have)
Swash leveling tool (optional - does help though)
Blade Balancing tool (must have but todays blades are very well made/balanced)
Red Tape (for tracking/balancing blades)
Velcro for mounting batts etc...
Double sided tape (3M is best)

The usual screw drivers, hex drivers, allen keys... etc...

Hi to everybody

Finally I got my 450 Pro but I’m a little bit disappointed with it because when trying to remove the top aluminum block to install the servos in the main frame I notice that the head screws were loctited and over tight. I tried to remove them by all means using a good quality Align Hex Drivers but unfortunately the head screws were damaged

Does anybody know some tip to remove the head screws on this condition?

Bob.. I noticed you stated in a few videos and posts about setting up in rate mode AND NOT using the "Auto" feature in the gyro menu (JR/Spectrum). Can you talk about this a little? Though my fleet is set up to almost my liking I feel I can tweak it a little more and get some wag out...

Don't feel bad, we all have done it
Take your trusty Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel on it and cut a slot in the screw head then use a flat head screwdriver to back out the damaged screw. Add a little heat to the screw head with the tip of a soldering iron to melt the LockTite a little also. The screw is shot now so I hope you have a replacement on hand.

Yes the dremel tool method works well. I have also been able to use a small, long nose vise-grip to grab the head and back the screw out. Either way, the screw is trashed.

first heat the screw with a soldering iron and than grab it with a flat head plier .

what about lubes? I have read about getting silicon oil and white lithium grease, could someone please sugest some links on what to get to build and maintain?

I use Silicon Lube/Spray on my T-REX 450SE V2 belt, but you won't need that on this TorqueTube Heli. Great stuff though! Highly recommended!

I use a good quality White Lithium Grease for packing thrust bearings. Bearing supply stores have said it's very good for this application.

All of these can be purchased from your local automotive hardware stores. Here in Canada, I go to, and use the MotorMaster brand of lubricants.

Remember though, IF these gears are delrin, nylon, or a similar type of "plastic" then no lubricant is needed. That's one of the reason's they use "plastic type" gears. The other is that they last a VERY long time, and "flex" enough without breaking under load.

A little warning if some of you have placed the ESC like me, under the battery tray with battery cables pointing out of the hole at the bottom of the tray.

Watch that there are clearance between the 3 motor wires and your pinion. I took a longer Velcro strap ( from TRex 500 or 600) and under the cables and around the ESC and up over the battery.
That way the cable did not reach the motor pinion and could be damaged.

I like that placement of the ESC best, it looks cleaner, but I do not hope heat would be an issue, with cables and strap over the cooling plate.

Anyway, if you place the ESC like me, the Velcro strap that follow the kit are too short to reach around the battery, but fits perfect around the gyro.

With todays esc's there isn't much chance of over heating! I run a jazz 40-6-18 in my beam with the scorpion motor... The esc is between the motor and battery and it stays at ambient... Our temperature here ranges between 95 - 118f... The hottest part of the heli is the head? after a 6 minute flight on the beam you have to pick it up from the blades, the head is too hot! I have another jazz for the 450 PRO if it ever arives!!!!!

I think it might me time to get new dampners for the beam!
