Default PL8 discharge to Zero Voltz?

I have some old batteries I would like to discharge to zero volts and dispose of. Does the PL8 allow for discharge to zero?

The lowest discharge voltage for LiPos 2.5v per cell. For NiXX its 0.5v per cell. I would use a light bulb or small load to bring it down to 0v.

After getting the whole pack to indicate 0V, yo should check each cell.
If any still have a charge discharge them via the balance leads and a load.
When all the cells read 0v, it's time for disposal.

Personally, I've used a LiPo preset to get them below 3V per cell then used an NiMH preset to bring them down below 1V for the whole pack. Then I just short the wires which very quickly uses up the rest. It won't even spark with that little voltage.

I can't say that it's a recommended approach, just that I've never had a problem doing it that way. Certainly if you try it you'll want to be in a well ventilated area with nothing combustible nearby as safety precautions.

Also, prior to disposal I either solder the main leads together or tape them well. That way there's no risk that the packs might acquire a charge after disposal. That's super unlikely, but .. it's also really easy to prevent.

Default Discharge to 0 volts

Hi there
Was wondering if the PL8 can be set to discharge to 0 volts for battery disposal?

Something about this question sounded very familiar. Oh, here it is.

Put the battery for disposal in a bucket of salty water. It will discharge itself that way, the salt increases the conductivity of the water to speed it up otherwise you could be there for a long time.

Salt doesn't work reliable and may leave some cells charged with no easy way to discharge them.

Lipo in saltwater for fun and science
