Just finished up another set of my crazy 12v night blades. These are Edge 603mm for the 6HV.

They are powered by home made 3s 240mah packs. Under a load the pack voltage dropped to under 12v within 4 minutes so it looks like these are good for one flight only.

Weight is 163 and 164 grams each so I've some balancing to do. I forgot to get the actual weight before I started. I think they are around 130 grams or so.

Hobbyking claims those 120mm long lamps are 3 watts each. Bunch of BS if you ask me because ebay says those small circular lamps are also 3 watts and they only have 6 chips each vs what looks like 48 chips visible on the long blue lamp.

I like having leds on the tips so the only thing I could think of is 3 1210 leds in series. In the second pic you can see a 10 ohm 2 watt resistor. Despite this the green led lamps leveled off around 130F in a 70 degree room. The longer ones were a steady 100F.

This was a very satisfying project. Did about 3 weeks worth or research and the build took about a week. Being a nitro makes this ideal with the long flight times. I ended up getting a catalyzed clear coat for the blades and canopy. Because of the current winter weather advisory I have yet to fly, but as soon as I can I'll be out there freaking out the neighbors. Big thanks to Jason O'Connell and the video series from Gus Petraits!

Default Easy night setup: works great for me!

Decided to share my setup. Trex 550 DFC stretched, BD3SX.

I did not go too far setting up fancy controllers. Just main LED (warm yellow) in a shape of arrow (canopy side) and straight line (tail). Cross if looking from the front. Perpendicular red line canopy side, 2 red lines tail direction if looking from the bottom. 3S battery power supply. I run it at 11v to reduce amount of light. As it does not consume barely anything battery keeps same voltage for many flights.

My main blades RT 530 are small round battery operated, start when spooling up. Same with tail blades. No charging. Just replace when needed.

My flying experience was so great I stopped flying day time. Started with careful hovering, today performed whole sky loops and all I can do in 3D. Sound, power, looks, finally stars and Australian moon: just amazing!

I have a great spot next to my home. A cricket club field with 24h lighten barbecue area. Easy to setup and make few steps into the darkness. Love whole thing, just wanted to share!

Following the excellent tips in this "dark" area of HF, I've set-up my beater, a Tarot 480 Sport for some night action.
It's only lacking a bit of lighting in the tail section, but it works OK as it is.
Got figure a way to keep the Camera from having the auto focus working during the flight.

Nice!

You just have the canopy's red and green the other way around... normally it's RRR (right red return), so the red should be on the left side... joking
