Hey Guys I was gonna do a quick reach out and ask what receiver batteries is everyone using??
I will be running an Icon on the 500 and a full size black Vbar on the 700. I am running HV servos as well.

For the 500 I would rec a bec. Castle has a new bec out with waterproof case. Very adjustable. For the 700 I would either run a bec with back up guard or r2prototyping cap bank. Also lots of 2s Rx pack out there pulse

When I flew before I just used a 7.4 pack for rec but I just didnt know if it had changed in 4 years. ive used BEC but I kinda look at that as another possible failure point. I did see the castle bec which is what I had in the past. Just kinda feeling everybody out. Thanks for your input.

I have been using the Hobbico LiFe 2100 on my 700L but am planning to put on a BEC on instead. My 550's have BEC's. Just tired of dealing the extra battery.

I'll be using a BEC plus Optipower Ultraguard as backup for safety on my 700X.

A standard 2S Lipo is fine. I use 'normal' ones intended for powering small planes, something like a 2S 2200mAh will give you easily 6 flights with ample capacity to spare, no point getting anything bigger IMHO. I avoid 'Rx specific' packs because a lot of them have very poor C rating and suffer from bad voltage sag under high servo load. The normal LiPos are cheaper anyway.

The other alternatives are a good quality HV BEC, or these days there are some HV ESC's with good quality built in BEC's such as the Hobbywing V4 range.

The battery option has the advantage of being cheap and simple and inherently reliable. The BEC option is more convenient because there is no extra battery to have to charge and connect, but you have the (very slight) risk of failure, and they are more costly.

I say don't use an RX pack.. get yourself a nice reliable Hobbywing ESC with internal BEC and your all set.. get yourself the 100amp for the 500 and or the 700 get a 130 or 160HV

OK Guys I do appreciate all your Help on this and replies. After a lil research I am going to just eliminate the BEC option all together. Im kinda old school and thin If I can eliminate one electronic device that could fail then I should do it. So with that being said I have ordered pule 2550 mah 7.4 rx packs for the 700's and a 2100mah 6.6v Lifpo for the 500. Wish me luck.
