Same here (yes also a pincher) with my Taranis. Swapped the two rearmost switches so they match other radios (momentary on left, two post on right).

Works same as stated above, rearmost left long switch is rescue, rearmost right long switch is throttle hold.

However for a pincher with small hands its still a chore to reach those rear switches and the frontmost 3 pos switches are very close to them.

Cheers
Tim

Hello I'm Josh and although I haven't flown a darn thing in over 8 months, when I did, I was a pincher also. And I pretty much activated rescue on a 3SX just like Chris here in this video.

rctechnik http://rctechnik.de/stick-switch-Spektrum/ make stick switches/push buttons for Spektrum users.

Other Tx makes are catered for too.

I gotta call BS on the strapless pinching. I need a tray to fly and have forgotten it a few times. I won't fly without it.

Been kicking these ideas around in my head a while, and I think I'll put the stabilization mode R and H on a long 3-way as Rudder D/R in the Gear location, move the Bind/Trainer to the Rudder D/R position, and then the Gear 2-way to the Bind/Trainer location - maybe in parallel with hold.

My plan above didn't work out after peeking inside so I copied this method with a switch on each side both parallel to bind.

It's very tight inside, and easy to swap back cover switches with back cover switches, but not so easy to switch back cover switches with front cover switches due to isolated wiring front/back.

....
What is BS about it? I do it. Have for over 2 years.

May not be for you (hand size, TX size/weight, etc..), but no BS about it.

I started off with a strap (like in the video in post #22), but stopped using it as it provided no support and I have never once fumbled a TX.

It is advocated (with reasons) in: 1st U.S. R/C Flight School - Transmitter Handling (http://www.rcflightschool.com/TransmitterHandling.pdf). So don't just take my word for it.

Congrats I can't do it. All I have left to grip the TX while pinching sticks is the bottom edges of my palms.

Thanks for the link/info! I'll try to modify my technique!

My "pinky" fingers support the TX. My ring fingers do TH(right) and Rescue(left). My middle fingers rest above my mode(left) and DR(right) switches. My thumb and index fingers pinch the sticks (Thumb more over the top and index finger round front - more of a thumbs with assistance than a pen like pinch).

When holding the TX, it rests at a comfortable height for my arms and the heel/base of the TX rests against my chest/stomach (supported on the pinkies).

The advantages I find for me are:
  • I know by feel where mid-collective is.
  • I do not have a strap or tray to hook into to fly (just pick up and fly - not have it dangle and twist or accidentally disengaged TH when hooking up batteries, etc..)
  • I can relax the arms and have the TX at a height that feels right for the day (no strap or tray adjustments)
  • I got a great deal more accuracy with pinch than I had with thumbs when I switched as a beginner, I had to immediately reduce expo from 40 to 20 on my twitchy little micros.
It's not for everyone. If you are comfortable with one method, then stick with it (unless you feel your TX handling is holding you back). Best to experiment when you are first learning. Once you have a habit it's hard to change (as nothing else will feel immediately as comfortable).

There are as many good thumbers as pinchers so each is fine. However, it seems that more F3C pilots pinch than thumb.

I tried it and though it seemed strange at first, it is growing on me and I'll give it a try! Seems very logical! Since its been nearly two years I'm no longer comfortable with any method so I can retrain myself easily.

My dual rescue buttons also fall nicely under the ring fingers!
