Default Powerboost pipe failure

A few weeks ago I was breaking in the 105hzr and had the powerboost pipe fitted. After about a gallon and a half, it cracked in flight around the weld. There was only about 3/4 of an inch of the weld still attached. I filled out an RMA with OS and got an email back saying that "if the muffler is only supportsd by the engine, it is expected to crack." I found that pretty strange. I was told to send it in anyway, and it was warranty replaced. The weld on the new pipe seems to be quite a bit thicker.

Nice form letter reply, but glad that took care of it!

If they intend for the muffler to be supported at the exhaust end, shouldn't they also include or sell the parts to do that?

My thinking exactly. Or at least put in in the instructions.

Yep. Sounds like an after the fact excuse, to me.

I really like the mounting setup on the big Hatori pipes since it gives the pipe some vibration isolation from the engine.

So do I. If it happens again I will switch to hatori.

Lame is right. The separate manifold is less likely to crack. You can get Hatori for a lot less than Powerboost as well.

Was more common years ago that these mufflers used a support clamp out back, attached to the heli to support the pipe. Not sure why they seemed to go away.
