Default KDE550XF-1200-G3

Today I installed the 600x torque tube/boom etc into my 550x and put on halo 610mm main blades;

I have a 600xf-530-G3 on it's way, but thought to give the 550xf a go swinging 610mm blades.

I wasn't actually flying, just pitch pumping and some normal and inverted hovering just to get a feel for the new blades size, it made the heli feel much lighter in the air.

Upon landing my cc edge hv120 was making an odd beeping sound and when I got closer smelled.. like it was hot/burning and was scorching to the touch, motor was fine.

Got it home and opened the logs.. 6304watt peak!! My cc edge hv120 hit 115.1 degrees celcius in operation and seems to be ok, which was surprising as it's rated to 100 degrees.

I was using gov 2300 rpm, pwm 8khz & timing 0 on the cc edge, 2 x 4s nanotech a-specs in series, is it normal to hit such higher power output than it is rated for? Previously I had reached ~5100watt peaks running 8s on 550mm mains with 2500-2600rpm.

Was the beep a series of long-short tones? I encountered this two weekends ago with the Edge 120HV and the 600XF-1100. This particular combination indicates current that exceeded the threshold. I had ESC set for "insensitive" with a 180A threshold. The peak was momentary on a pitch pump.

The "hot/burning" smell may be the varnish on the windings. See the KDE FAQ.

As for whether such peaks are normal, my 600XF-1100 is the 8-pole version, I only have a dozen or so flights on it, and it differs in pole count and specs from the 550XF. That said, I've only hit 180A once, but I regularly see 4000-5000 watt peaks on 6S with a head speed of 2400 rpm swinging 556mm blades on a Synergy E5.

That smell went away after ~10 flights, it wasn't coming from the motor, was the ESC.

My insensitive setting is 210amps for the HV120.

Previously swinging the 550mm revolution blades the highest current draw was 176amps.

I'm really only curious as to whether I would kill this motor running it at such a power, it's rated to 5kw and I'm hitting 6.3kw, it will definitely kill the ESC.. but if I upgraded to a bigger could I just keep on using the motor with that power output?
