Default Pay to play.

It's what my father always told me anyway. If you want to do something you enjoy, you have to pay first.

Before I was a heli pilot I used to play guitar and collect guitars. Pretty expensive. When I got hurt in Afghanistan and lost most of my hearing I gave up music and have since taken up helis.

Just got done spending about another $2,000.00 for my fury 55 FBL. (Everything is on its way) I could barely get to sleep last night after placing all of my orders. It's not that I am unable to spend the money or am financially unable to keep up with the cost of this hobby. It's just that... Well... 2k is a lot of effing money. For anyone nowadays.

I'm sure once everything has arrived and I can start laying out the parts on my table it will go away. But for now, I want my shizz and I want it fast!

It's going to be my first build. Any helpful tips?

Once you get what you need it can be manageable if you don't crash much and avoid temptation to buy new helis. Look at my sig, I don't fly high end stuff at all. But if you added up all the junk I take to the field it is scary.

I have never build anything that big myself. Just take your time and don't worry. It looks a lot more complicated than it is. Any questions go to the respective sub-forum and we got your back!

Sorry to hear about your hearing. Keep on keeping on!

I was just like that once. Get the nice heli and learn to fly it. If you get a junk cheap one chances are it wont fly to well. Besides when that VA check comes in every month you have some hobby money. Thats what I use my disability check for, helis or parts.

It was a painful week to wait for my new 700 DFC to come in. I finally got it and built it all up, took my time. Then the weather was bad, I completed it Jan 20th and since then have had only 1 day that permitted flying. Its still painful....

Best suggestion I can make is to take your time on your wiring. Think it out really well and don't settle for second best!

Also, take breaks!!! If you get in the mode that it just has to get done then you start to do more harm than good. On a machine that size and quality you want to keep it that way.

Relative to other hobbies this is not too bad, especially once you progress out of the crash every weekend phase. Assuming you can afford what you buy, which you say ou can, enjoy it. It's your choice.....you either bought wall art or you bought a machine meant to be used. Enjoy it however you want. Just enjoy it. That is why you work hard.

I'd say I've far surpassed the crash daily stage but I get what your saying

Don't get in a hurry, take your time, and enjoy the build.

Don't be afraid to ask questions here, and in your model specific sub-forum if you run into something that stumps you.

Make sure you fully understand everything about every step along the way. This will help you down the road during the inevitable re-build.

The worst thing you can do is try and finish it in one setting. Take breaks, set goals if you have to, but take your time!

And most importantly, have fun! The build is one of the more rewarding aspects of this hobby.

Good luck, and happy wrenching to you!

The biggest tip I can give you for the 55 is to ballance the fan and hub very carefully. Get it bang on and it flys like silk, get it wrong and it'll shake the vbar out the heli.

And get the tail belt like a banjo string.
