Default motor mount question

the screws on my blade 450x motor mount are siezed and won't release. i don't know if factory used wrong loctite or what, but it's just starting to round off the heads and the screws on't turn. any suggestions, any help would be appreciated. happy flying

You need to use heat to melt the loctite first. Either hold a soldering iron tip on the head for a while or use a small butane torch if dealing with all metal and nothing surrounding the bolts can be burned.

If its too late and head are already stripped out, then cutting a slot in the head with a Dremel wheel and using a flat head screwdriver will work. The heat generated from the Dremel wheel cutting will melt the Loctite

I had the exact same problem, and heating them didn't make any difference. I tried Dremeling a groove in one of the bolt's heads, that just made things worse as it didn't work right and I couldn't get any grip on it. That bolt is now ruined.

A few weeks later I ordered a MIP Thorp 2mm hex wrench to deal with some other issues and I thought I'd give it a try. Lo and behold it got enough bite on the one good remaining bolt to remove it no problem. I was convinced it was never coming off. I now have a motor with one bolt that's removable, the other is seized on with a stripped head, and I never even got the chance to do the loctite mod. I've since replaced it all with a Hobbyking 3400kv NTM motor and Lynx mount, so it doesn't matter anymore, but it sure was frustrating trying to get those bolts out using allen keys and even other after market wrenches. The MIP Thorps are pretty amazing, I never thought they'd be worth the price, but they are.

On another note, if anyone wants my stock motor without the bearing lock mod super cheap just let me know, it's still going strong!

Same issue I had also. I have a interchangeable small screwdriver set I use I picked up at wallyworld for like 8 bucks and works great. I used the star head looking one the same size as the allen key and it got good bite and took care of the problem. I have actually started using that bit instead on all screws and have not had the problem again.

i use the torx keys on a lot of the screws, they bite better than the hex heads, and don't strip the head usually, but this one did. finally had to grind a slot in it. got them out though and replaced them with some extras i had, all good now. thanx for the advice guys

I had the same problem when replacing the 440 motor. I had to drill the heads off and open the frame enough to release the motor mount. Get new bolts of good quality and you will be fine.

This is common on both 4503d and 450x. I ended up cutting two flats on the outside of the bolt opposite each other and used pliers to grab a hold and get it out. It would be easier to just buy a new mount from the start if upgrading or replacing the motor.
