Not sure. Why not just get the REX 3N carb for the 57?
http://www.novarossi.it/eng/news/rea...=105&brand=rex Should be available soon.

Looking forward to the 3-needle carb for sure. If you need a test pilot, let me know.
Oh and to update folks from my last post, the problem did seem to be the o-ring on the low needle. A fellow pilot had an entire spare carb he didn't need and just gave it to me so I scavenged the o-ring from it. I would have used the whole carb but it was an older design I think. The inlet port was 8mm ID versus mine at 10mm ID but interestingly, the spray bar opening pointed down instead of straight out like mine. At any rate, the engine seems to be working just fine now but I would much rather have the flexibility of the 3-needle carb for a little better reliability.

Low compression
Hi,
I have a Novarossi 57 with a muffler MP5 50 SB. I added a shim of .001 for a total of .004. I used 30% nitro and I have burned about 1 1/2gal. The compression and the engine temperature was perfect. Now, I have no compression. I can turn the engine with the tip of my fingers. I opened the engine and everything seems to be in good condition and the ring does not stick. What do you think he can be?

hi my friend
sorry for late unwer the novarossi engine when breack in loose the compression WHEN ARE NOT RUNNING. than your condition is NORMAL. this is the DYKE ring effect that open and make seal=compression ONLY when the fuel ingnicte. Otherwise, in normal condition the engine fly after fly will loose a bit of compression. The signal that engine loose a bit of compression is during the starting. If the engine that was running perfect, come hard to start, this can be a signal of compression lost, in this case change first the plug with a new one, but if the issue persist, just realize that is necessary remove 0.1 mm under head and make more compression. My personal experience show that in case of engine that was running in the right condition, after 100 tank I will remove 0.1mm , than he will be stable for other 400 tanks. After 500 totally tanks I suggest if you compete or you need the max performance an engine service will be advised, rear bearing and complete coupling. If you don't need competition performance, I have a 57 that he mackes in 2 years more of 1400 tanks, he make good power and i use it for body box fly. Any info are welcom.

Hi Luca,
Is it normal that I can turn the engine by the starter hex coupling with the tip of my fingers?

Did i buy the right engine?
Helloo all from Singapore...I just bought myself a rex 57 and h5 pipe for my trex 600...most of the people including my bro(in our local flying club) said that this engine is kinda hard to tune in singapore due to the weather here...weather in singapore is always between 28degrees celcius to 35 degrees celcius with about 70% to about 88% humidity all year round...and i have to admit my bro whois my coach is having a hard time tuning it...I was wondering did i buy the right engine or people are just having doubts on tuning european engines....most of the people in our local club are using os(most popular) or ys engines...your thoughts please...cheerzzz

I've just installed one and started running it in
The carb is responding nicely to tuning You just have to understand that the low needle is somewhat independent to the main and is much more important on the 57HR than the low needle on the OS The low needle on the 57HR effects a much larger RPM range Certainly humidity is a pain - but should effect all engines equally I'll know more when I have the engine run in and tune it in idle up I am impressed with how smooth the engine runs - even when rich and it is very willing to rev for sure

what is the ideal temperature for this engine to run at? I recall reading somewhere that it runs hotter than most engines. Info would be appreciated
thanks Jon |

Rex 57 setup
Hi Michael Roedig, all,
I just plan to bring my first nitro heli in the air and really think I go for the Rex You wrote here about the .57 and that you got some helpfull setup tips ... maybe you can share those with me ? The only experience I have is with R/Cars and the .21 Rex Engine which gave me some trouble tuning it ... a friend then did that for me, so I did lear nothing, even though, it's 15 years ago So, maybe someone can put a beginners guide to the .57 Rex together ? - needle setup ? - fuel (break-in different from fly ?) - compression settings, is all I need in the box or do I need to buy additional/separate items, rings, shims, whatever ? - glow plugs (OS 8?) Anything for the first start ? How to correctly break-in ? How many gallons before first takeoff? Rpm/temp for break-in ? And maybe astupid one, having my Car in mind, I tuned the needly by grabbing tha car in my hand, throttle to full, and check for the needle, how can I manage to tune the needles (my .21 had just one) because of the rotating rotor ? Think I can't reach it ... ?! Anything else I need to know ? Many thanks!!! Cheers Linus Last edited by linus; 11-04-2010 at 03:21 PM.. |

Stock plug is fine for the first gallon or so then I switch to os 8 on both my .57 and .91. Stock needle settings are usually fine for the first few tanks. Don't need to run it on the ground first. Just start it and make sure your idle and hold on your tx are good then get it up into a hover for a tank or two then you can ease it into some forward flight and then after a gallon you can start to lean it up some each flight. My novarossi engines took a little more time to fully break in(make the most power) but they made plenty of power while running rich so there is no need to rush it. Once it is broke in the .57 likes about 2200 rpms on the head. Shims come with the motor...which ones to use depends on your climate and nitro%
There are a lot of posts/videos on nitro setup and starting. If you need them just use the search function. |

This is the best change you can do. The new 3 needle carb makes tuning so much easier with little adjustments from the start.
When you install carb just make sure you are putting downward pressure on the carb while you tighten the side screw to make sure you get a good seal. Then go fly.................... |

I actually found a NIB pipe in Italy (go figure, lol) I just love the engine too much to let it go. It rivals my 91 YS in power on my 700.
