the ikon handles the spool up so it doesn't really matter.

i do like the heli, it's small, flies great and parts and batteries are cheap.

I tried a robird in it and couldn't get it to feel right, but with a ikon it's great.

i'll probably stretch it if that kit comes ever comes out. I'm digging the plastic blades

one thing i have learned though, i cannot fly the 300X then fly my 7HV, it's too different, it makes my 7HV scary

Not exactly. I'm not talking about the rest of the ramp-up after the 1st rotation. I'm talking about the 1st rotation. To be exact, it's the moment the motor starts. Without YEP set to heli spoolup modes, even if FBL controller advances throttle so slow it triggers YEP to start motor and then stays at that super low throttle level without advance 1 more percent, the YEP plane modes still jerk the motor on quite abruptly. In many cases, the heli will rotate on the ground just from the motor getting started and before main blades even get to rotate 30 degrees. It needs YEP internal spoolup algorithm to get super slow motor start. Here is how my YGE starts with Heli-Fast spoolup. Notice the moment the blades start to move. It's not because of the weight of the blades that make the spoolup super slow. Even without blades, the motor starts same as slow right at the moment it starts.

Same here. Plus much less fear to push it.

Love the iKon in my friend's Protos. Much more sim-like even compare to vBar, which is already better than BeastX in that regard.

I don't have a 700-size heli but I know what you mean when I jump from 300X to Protos (500-size). That said, I keep flying alternate between my 300X and Protos. This way I won't get too comfortable with 1 heli and take things for granted. I find this a good strategy to advance pilot skills better. Same applies to my previous life hobby. I loved to keep more than 1 race car at any given time. Jumping between them kept refreshing my driving skills better when pushing the cars to the limit.

I'm finally starting to spend time practicing piro flips and I find my 300X invaluable for that purpose. Despite what everybody thinks that bigger heli is more stable and seems to have longer "hang time" in the air, it's easier to practice piro flips with the 300X. Yes, the 300X may seem to drift around more than the Protos but if you consider drift amount in terms of actual distance in feet not in heli-length, then the 300X doesn't actually drift any more than the Protos. Same goes for bumping collective to buy hang time for each flip. Instead of bumping up altitude by the same 1 heli length for both helis, bump up altitude by say 3ft for both helis and hang time is about the same. In that case, 300X gets an edge because if my collective timing is off the Protos will drift (or go in the wrong direction) understandably faster than the 300X.

I gotcha now, that would explain why my 300x spools up real nice and my 7hv kicks.

Back to the programming card I go.

Thanks for the insight.

wow were those 306 servos a pain to install on the stock frame.

I had to grind a bunch of material away to fit the front servo. I had to make some g10 spacers for the back servos to fit so that arms to don't hit their neighbor.

but, boy oh boy was it worth it. Huge difference. It's quite a bit more snappy and responsive.

Good to hear it was worth the effort.

Same plastic blades I assume?

Did you notice the extra weight of the servos?

I am will run with these servos all round as well, hard to beat for the price.

Thanks for the reporting your findings PI.

BTW I am lining these up for the 300 CFX so I don't think I will have the fitting issues you had. Could be wrong

You better have a more powerful motor ready for the heavier servos plus already heavier CF frame. PIEngineer runs a motor much more powerful than stock so he doesn't feel the extra weight.

I'm flying the 2215 typhoon motor, not 2218.

It comes down ice cold, good little motor.

Yeah I noticed, hopefully the 2218 won't suck up too much juice? Its just that I have the 2218 laying around from an other heli, brand new.

I might order the 2215 anyway as it might be a more efficient set up. Were talking under $20, not exactly a huge ticket item.

I take it that the 306 servo frequency is 333Hz and the center position pulse length is 1520micro seconds

The Typhoon 2215H is an awesome motor for only $15. It has a LOT of power for such a small bird like the 300X. Mine is governed to 3700RPM with +/- 13 degrees of pitch, and it simply doesn't bog. It comes down barely even warm after a 3:30 flight.

I didnt check the freq, it's most likely at 200 on cyclic, and 333 on the tail

Yes, highest possible frequencies for 1520us center pulse mode.

Surely not 560Hz on the tail servo? (BeastX)

560Hz needs 760us center pulse.

200 on cyclic and 333 on tail is typically what i've run for most setups

except my 7HV which has a 760 pulse tail on it.

Same here. Thanks for checking PI.

The only heli I run 760 on is my Goblin 700 HV tail servo.

Se how we go.
