Finished rebuilding it after the big crash.
I think I got off lightly for the crash, Protos crashes well I think, about $150 in parts I think.

Yeah that's not to bad from what I see there. In the crash photos it appeared to be much worst.

New Protos owner here. Looking forward to enjoying the MSH goodness.
I live in the land of rain until late spring here, so my flying days have been few. I did manage to put 2 flights on the heli during lunch on Wednesday and 4 flights during lunch today. I have to try and get flights in at lunch as the current sunrise and sunset times correspond to my start and end times of work. So far I'm enjoying this neat heli. I love how quiet it is in the air and it sure gets moving when you pour on the coals!! It's the first heli that I've had with a uBeast, so I've been working on tuning that to get it to fly like my other helis. Once I get more comfortable, the flying should be much less nerve racking.

Got 3 totally enjoyable flights in today.
This is simply a great bird and the sound is just amazing.

Was about to do a full rebuild on my Stretch but got hold of a NAZA-H with GPS to try out. So put off the rebuild as this will be the testing mule for the next week or two.
Setup and test thread started here. //Dennis.

Just got in from completely ripping my tail off. I guess it was too cold and the gyro just let go. No tail and its very close to xmas so ordering parts is not a option to get her back in the air. So here is my question Helifreaks should i just go fbl with the tarot zyx or just stay fb hmmmmmmmm.

The ZYX is very sensitive to static, and the Protos is a static monster. I've got a ZYX flying very well on my P, but when static hits it's a nightmare. Winter flying (cold dry weather) is pretty much out of the question.
Try a Robird G31. They're inexpensive and have great feedback on rcg.

Just got back from having 3 nice flights in the cold weather. On the 3rd flight while using a older battery after a few loops/ tictocs i heard the rpms drop considerably. I was still flying just at a much lower headspeed. I reeled it in quickly and set it down and after throwing my voltage checker on my battery i found 2 cells at 3.5v and the rest at 3.9v. Guess the battery found the end of its life today, glad it didnt take my shiny new protos with it!

Good save. That would've been a crying shame.

Had a great day. Only 5 flights, but the first time I've had her out since 9/23. A great way to end the year!! Temp was in the high 30's and the Prôtos was loving it! Last flight was flight #100, and she was quieter and faster than ever!!

Congrats! I love the way the P autos. It's so predictable, but has a small challenging element in there. It's not dumb easy like a 600+ bird, but not as crazy hard as a 450 either.
Otherwise, happy new year to all!

Thanks, Dr. M. I've been practicing autos on the sim so much I figured it wouldn't be right to not at least try one for the last flight of the day.

Bought and fitted new blades for it today.
Not that I broke the Edge FBL 423's, but I want to try the Rotortech 430's. I have the RT blades on my E640 and I love the way they feel so linear. Comparatively, the Edge equipped Protos feels like it has a dead area from -3 to +3 deg pitch. (To me, anyways)

Flew 4 thru the P500 today, it such a nice bird.
I keep thinking I should install the ahem Align 650 rudder servo over the bls257 but it's so solid with the futaba I haven't gotten around to it.

This is true, but I found if you up the hs it is less noticeable, say around 3000rpm...

I'm at a flat 90% throttle curve on a Jazz 80 and 14t pinion. I don't think I'm getting any more out of it without changing pinions. I really want to be able to fly at a slower headspeed to get the longer flight times and be easier on my batteries.

Not yet. I picked up the RT blades because me LHS carries them and because I like the feel of them on my other heli.

I have a new set of Maverick 430 G5 Pro wide chords that I haven't had a chance to try yet. The wider chord is supposed to make them more responsive around center. I'll post my observations when I get a chance.
