Advice needed Please
Hello guys, I currently fly an Esky Honey Bee V2 but want to go for the Quark. I was looking at various websites and came across the Hirobo site with updates on the fourthcoming release of the Quark Second Generation due in Spring 2010.
The confusing thing for me is the fact that they have omitted to go with a 2.4ghz system and for the UK stick with the 35Mhz! the SG release will also be CP rather than FP. What insight have you guys got and is not having 2.4ghz a major issue? |

I'm sorry, but having to pay 800.00 dollars for a micro helicopter that is driven by 72mgz tech, is where I draw the line. Hirobo will not have many sales here in the USA with that deal. I'm sure quality is top notch with this bird, so that is somthing to take into consideration when buying. Why the hell did'nt they upgrade the Lepton, or build a 450 class heli?

I spoke to a UK model shop yesterday who said pretty much the same, stick with the Quark FP version as it really is that good. This new version will retail in te UK for approx. £700, total madness for something that does not offer 2.4ghz.
The guy I spoke to could only think they had so many Mhz modules left that they needed using up. Lame maybe but who knows. I think I will go with the original version it seems to get rave reviews even now after a number of years release. |

I really don't know what Hirobo is thinking on this one. They are looking pretty conceded with prices like this. There is just no excuse here.
Every 3D manuver the machine does in the video looks very unstable, and it also looks like it drops like a rock as well. Typical micro machine. You can get the same thing out of a e-flight, or HJeli Max micro

Yeh, not really for the RC heli enthusiast.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have one just to hover around while regular life takes precedence, but that is just not worth it. However there is alot more of the FP QUARKS in the classifieds these days for good prices, as they are dumping them for the CP version.
Do they read these forum's to see what the communities are saying?

The new Blade SR is a much better deal IMHO.

My buddy has a FP Quark and I have to admit that it does fly very nicely and it is built like a TANK. I've lost count of how many times it's been crashed yet all it's ever needed were new blades.

I have also heard many good things about the FP version, and again they are re-selling on RR classifieds really cheap for full set ups.

I am seriously considering the Quark FP but I didn't realise (realize (for the US )) the Blade SR was it's direct competitor, though I really like the looks of the Quark. Thanks for that I will look into it. Just got my mSR so a little practice with this first I think.

Please accept below my opinions; I am not trying to aggress anyone or make my ideas seem like universal truth! They are the result of hours of hands on experience with these 2 helis, as well as other CP helis, that's all nothing more!
I have both a Quark FP and a Blade mSR. In my opinion, they are not really the same animal. The Quark is sophisticated and really lives up to the Rolls-Royce reputation it has. Absolute stability in hover and flight with various levels of adjustment possible and even a built in head-speed tach to optimize performance. I got mine used on ebay and bought cheap LiPo's from www.hobbyking.com. The foam rotor blades mean that there is very little chance of having structural damage in minor accidents. I have detected no wear on any parts despite many many hours of flight. It flyies incredibly well. The Blade mSR flyies pretty well too, but not in the same league with the Quark. It is not as solidly built as the Quark either. You should reinforce the wires of the tail motor with hot glue so that they don't break on the first crash. Parts are available, but I've had to spend nearly the price of the heli to re-build the head. The servo motors are also fragile. There is a long thread with solutions to lots of issues here: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=165025. Even without accidents, I found that the parts wear rather quickly on the mSR. Flying it is fun for sure! Bottom line: - you want a new heli and the cheapest solution: Blade mSR, - you want a heli that offres much more and perhaps will last longer if you are careful (Don't Crash!) and can accept second-hand, or paying the price of new: Quark In any event, neither of these FP helis will really help you if you want to step up to CP. If you want to make that move, get a simulator first, like the Phoenix. Hope this helps. GF. |

This sounds like a good general summary for E-Flite helis in general. Poorly made, corners cut everywhere to save weight and generally don't fly anywhere as nice as E-Flite advertises.
