Default Learning to fly

Thought it would be fun to start a thread logging my progress, will likely bore most of you but should be enlightening for myself as I (hopefully) improve.

I've been at this for a few weeks now and I'm now working on side in hovers with my nCPX. I am not using a sim.

I remember those days so well. I went back through all my old videos the other day and was struck by how boring they were. At the time it was such a big deal. You're doing great, but I would say that a simulator will help you progress much faster. I started without one too, but can't imagine not using one now.

+1 I was stubborn for a long time too. the sim really really helps. Follow Archmages training program , it does wonders!

I've done sims and for basic control they have never translated to actual flying. I'll give it another shot before advancing to 3D.

I would never think of doing a new maneuver in real life before mastering it in the sim. It is just too expensive, even with the micros. I don't know how many nano frames I went through trying to fly inverted before getting hel-x and working on hover training with piros. And now, learning piro-flips, Who knows how many times I've crashed in the sim? I get depressed seeing the number and clear it from time to time. It is so realistic that I sometimes stay in and fly the simulator when I have the heli ready to fly, but not very often. It really is worth it.

Hi all! Could I start with Trex 450 Plus RTF? I just have got a heli toy for year. It's not good with outdoor.

Well I've got my side ins pretty much down. Yesterday I was even able to go outside and fly around a friends front yard. So long as I didn't let it get nose in I was able to pretty much fly it around at will. With no wind and a finger on TH I even managed his challenge to land on the back of his hand without difficulty. So today I'm back into crashing it into things as I work on nose in hovers. I'm sneaking up on them a little at a time and I've got about 45 degrees to go to strait in. I should be there soon.

Indeed, I've got my nose in hovers pretty well, now doing the slow piros to sharpen up. Just as boring as they are made out to be but I can see why they are needed.

good day so far today, rather windy and ive been blown into the ground a couple times so far but i have not only managed FFF today but i flipped her over, mantained orientation and even flew away from the big heli eating tree that the wind wanted to introduce me to before flipping back to right side up without incident!

Sitting on the bumper of my car now waiting on the lipo charger to try again.

i think im well on my way to becoming a heli pilot, today i decided it was too windy for my plane so ive been flying the heli in winds that are likely nearing half the speed of the heli.

Flying in strong winds is ultimately frustrating and makes crashes much more likely. I'll pass and just use the sim that day even with a 700 to fly.

Just a couple weeks ago I could barely avoid crashing while "hovering" and today

a successful landing on the ceiling!

That's Awesome! I've tried to do that several times, but my low ceilings in my basement dont give me much time or room to flip it over! I've been working on my inverted orientations on the sim.
