General flight sim questions
Hello everyone. Not so sure this is the place to put this but here goes. I'd like to get a flight sim of some kind. I had a free version in the past but I no longer have a pc. All I have is my iPhone, an iPad, and a still working PlayStation 2 that no longer gets used. I also live in a rural area with no internet. , I know right? The large database plan I have on my phone gets me by just fine. Anyway, question is, would Realflight or some other flight sim work with my PlayStation 2? If not, is there some other gaming system or other way to make it work? I use a dx6i so that'd have to be connected some how.
Thanks to all, Blue |

sorry, i'm pretty sure both phoenix and realflight , the only sims im familiar with don't work on playstation, although a non rc flight sim of some kind might. you really need a pc or mac to run realfight, and a decent-ish graphics card. possibly, although im not certain, phoenix might run on a pc tablet, if its running windows. good news is the specs needed to run realight or phoenix are relatively low end by gaming standards, so you don't have to spend a lot on a pc to run at good framerates and graphics.

You don't need internet on the PC to make the SIM work, just if you want to fly with others. You can probably pick up a decent used PC for $100 that will run most sims reasonably. That $100 is so worth the saving and frustration in crash costs.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to keep an eye out for a pc at a decent price. I plan on getting a new big screen tv soon and thought it would be cool to be able to get some sim time in with the wet/cold season coming up.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html and a copy of this: http://www.heli-x.info/cms/download-2/ If shopping for a used PC locally, you can try those two and see how they run before you commit to anything. Heli-X is decent enough, has great training exercises, but the physics lack behind realflight. Phoenix is somewhere in the middle IMO. |

Flying the sim on the computer is a nice passtime. I highly recommend it. I can't get out to the field that often but I can get my fix by flying the sim. It's worth every penny.

For an IPhone or pad check the app store for indoor heli sim by idl corp. It's free, and it's a bit crude but works good for me on android.
I also ended up taking a Bluetooth game controller and a turnigy 9x and making a Bluetooth TX for it. It was the choice of a new computer and a Sim or an oxy3 for me and the oxy won so it's what I came up with to get a Sim as well.

for the sim to be a tool the pc running it has to have some power. doesnt sound like youll have access to those. so real life sim it is, youll need to get yourself a blade 230 w/ safe technology. if you take things slowly the self leveling mode will get you flying and keep you flying as long as you take it slow! then you can advance to 3d flight modes..instead of spending 300 on a computer to run the 150 sim it would be a much cheaper option since your resources are limited.
