I bought a 8s male to female JST-XH extension and a 7s parallel ballancing squid cable. You can fit the 7s squid in the female 8s. It is flexible enough. there are 8 black wires on the 8s. This will be for 7s. Leave the red wire by itself or cut it out if you like. Heatshrink over the connection and you have an 8s to 7s balancing squid cable. Maybe not the best but when I went through this a few months ago, I had a hard time trying to find the apropriate cables. They just do not seem to make them widely available. |

Re: New iCharger 308Duo
Nice, please let us know what you think. I have my eye on this one, seems like the sweet spot for me.
Have you seen the 4010/308Duo thread on RCG? Some discussion of recent firmware versions, etc, potentially relating to some failures. May be worth a read. Sent using Tapatalk.

I just ordered mine yesterday from ProgressiveRC.
I currently have the PL6 and love it. One attribute that sold me on the PL6 was how it never discharges a cell during balancing. It only pulls the low cells up. Ultimately saving time in balance charging. Do you guys know if the 308Duo does the same?

Guess I'll add my name to the list of new owners of this charger. I was stoked when Slyster posted this (thank you btw) but didn't want to jump on it yet, finally I gave in...... I am excited and hope it gets here soon, bought this and the Junsi 1200w PS to go with it from ProgressiveRC. Bet my packs will be happy to see a good balance charge for a change...LOL. The features on this beast look sweet and I already downloaded the manual to get started figuring things out.

I received my S1200 PS and 308 Duo today and all I can say is WOW!! This is one hell of a set up, wish I would have started out with something like this to begin with. Haven't had a whole lot of time to tinker but I did charge one of my low end 2200 3s packs and it was balanced better than I have ever seen. Guess the old saying stands true with chargers too, you get what you pay for!! Can't wait to spend more time using this and getting to know more about all the options this has. One thing for certain, ProgressiveRC's customer service is top notch.
P.S. can you tell I am feeling like a kid in a candy store.....LOL.

My S1200 has been working great... I am leery of it because it's so inexpensive, so I baby it (carefully unplug the power cable before coiling the cable up for storage, etc.)

I really enjoy this new 308 Duo. I have two 12volt 900watt power supplies in series to run it and it is a great set-up. I wish I would have started off with a unit like this instead of trial, error and wasted money buying lesser chargers.
Programming it takes a little getting use to coming from a 206b. I keep forgetting how I got to this section or that one. It will just come with practice and I keep a printed manual handy at all times.

I have an s1200 and 308b duo on the way. I am looking forward to upgrading my charging capabilities. My old thunder power 610c just isn't up to charging my 6cell packs at anything but 1c. I like buying packs rated for 3c or higher so I can get as many flights in as I possibly can. By the looks of the pdf manual it should be fun to figure out how to use it.
Out of curiosity what are people running for end charge? balance, voltage, or balance + voltage caps reached?

I have just ordered a 308 Duo. Can anyone give me advice on the best options for a PS? I think i heard somewhere, but can't find it now, some problem with using PSUs in series if one shuts down. Any help is much appreciated.

What's your budget, and how much power do you want/need? (another perspective is what do you want to charge, and how fast?)
You can almost max it out with a pair of 47A server power supplies (HP DPS-600PB) in series, for 24V. Each supply is 12V, 47A, 575W. Together, they can "only" put out 1150W, however, and the charger maxes out at 1300W output. Which would require 60A input, with a 24V supply. Assuming 90% efficiency, 1150W would get you 1035W output. At 6S, that's 41A. You can buy those supplies from eBay for under $20 each, shipped, and the other cost is some wire and connectors. You can also buy them already-modified, for about $110. feathermerchantrc.com, solidhobby.com, etc. I just found out about some other server supplies. HP DPS-1200FB, 12V, 75A, 900W each! Someone is selling them already modified for $90, shipped, for a set of 2, at 24V, 75A, 1800W. That would max out the 308Duo. Seems like quite a good deal to me: http://www.rchelination.com/forum/el...ower-supplies/ Those are your inexpensive options. If the budget is bigger, and you want a single supply, you can do that too. To get the full 1300W output, assuming 90% efficiency, you'd need 1450W input. At 24V input, that's 60A input. Junsi makes a 1200W supply, S1200, $270: http://www.progressiverc.com/junsi-s...er-supply.html Other options are more expensive (eg- $320 for 1000W from Meanwell). Some examples: http://www.progressiverc.com/power-s...4-27v-supplies I'm considering the 308Duo, but plan to use a pair of server supplies in series. I can't justify the cost of a single big supply, at the same price (or more) than the charger itself.

Re: New iCharger 308Duo
I use two deep cycles at the field and a feathermerchant.com 24v47a psu for home.

Thanks guys for all the help.
I have researched the different psus. But it was the problem with shut down of one causing a power surge into the charger. I read it somewhere, but can't find it now.
