Default Can Spektrum's backplate sensor be used for RPM?

Hi loggers,

Newbie question: I have an Eagletree Flight Data Recorder on the way and was wondering if it's possible to use a Spektrum's backplate sensor to monitor an OS50's RPM values? More so, can I use the same sensor for the FDC and my AR7100R's governor via a Y harness?

Thanks in advance!

yes, I'm using a Y harness and it works great. It does not negatively affect the limiter in my 7100r.

kazager, I presume you reversed the power and ground pins going into the data logger? That seems to work for me on the bench and it matches Eagle Tree's pinouts.

That's what I had to do to use the sensor with the align governor.

No, what I did is pull the + (center pin) out of the plug going into the Eagle Tree. Do not pass + to the Eagle Tree from the Sensor.

Thanks guys. kazager, I wonder if that worked for you because there's internal ground bridging when the power pin isn't applied. According to Eagle Tree's schematic though, it looks more proper to have just signal and ground, but with ground to where the power pin went (i.e. the middle socket). Anyway, whatever works, works!

Now on to figure out how to make a Spektrum receiver data wire, and to see if the 5v supply requirement is a hard one (I use 6v NiMH).
