Default 11 tooth pinion on a Belt Cp V2?

Anybody replaced the stock 10 tooth pinion, with a 11 tooth pinion on a Belt Cp V2?, What are your comments, on the performance?, is it worthwhile?

As a matter of fact, I ordered another motor and mount with the 11 tooth pinion yesterday.

Will let you know the difference.

I am not giving up on my Belt, the motor is the only thing left stock.

I honestly believe that it has potential

I once put a 11t pinion on the stock Belt CP V2 motor, but mounted in a CopterX with a 150 t maingear, which is even heavier than a Belt. To my big surprise, it flew quiet well for basic stuff. I would imagine it could bog very easily though when trying 3D-like stuff. But it worked in a 900 grams heavy CopterX. This motor is rated at about 200 Watts, which may seem little compared to for example a Scorpion 2221-8 at way over 400 Watts. But don't forget you only need like 100-150 Watts to hover around, also with the Scorpion. These are measured values, no guessing. Even less in a lighter Belt.
Worthwile ? Depends on the use and your level of flying, you will of course outgrow it at some point. But such a pinion is very cheap, so it might be worth the benefit of the extra headspeed, when flying calmly. The headspeed in the Belt should go from a maximum average of 2400 RPM to 2650 RPM with the 11 t pinion. This numbers only apply for full throttle. Will be lower in a hover.
Power and performance ratios are usually not linear. You'll need like 4 times the power to get 2 times the performance, so the stock Belt motor still does a reasonable job. Some people told me it would even not be able to lift off, lol.

Well, I installed the 11 tooth pinion and also threw in a Helimax main gear that I had laying around since I had it apart.

Hovered it for two batteries.
Belt CPV2 is more stable, more responsive.
The Helimax gear took care of a lot of the vibration that I had.
I think I lost about a minute of hover time on the batteries.
ESC and battery temps were a tad lower than usual, about 10 degrees.

Overall for me it was worth it

Hey B12;

I get alot of my Belt parts from Think RC
http://www.thinkrc.com/spare-parts-e...lt-c-9_41.html

I went ahead and bought another motor and motor mount also, did not want to risk messing up the shaft on the motor trying to pull off the pinion.

They sell the pinions as a set of 4.
All I needed was one.
It took a little convinsing to tap it on all the way(tight fit on the shaft)
Just install it to the same distance as the 10 tooth(maybe just a tad not as far), but when I was done it lined up with the Helimax gear perfectly cause that gear moved up higher when I set mainshaft play even after pressing the one way bearing up about 1 mm higher to contact the upper bearing when installed.

If you want a gear I would be glad to send you 2 of them just in case you mess one up putting it on.

Just PM me with your address and I will send them to you(no charge)

Clarence

Update on the 11 tooth pinion that I installed a couple weeks ago on the Belt CPV2.

To bring you up to speed on my DX6i settings:

Normal throttle curve= 0.0/ 75.0/ 90.0/ 95.0/ 100.0
Normal pitch curve with +/- 11 degrees= 46.0/ 61.0/ 76.0/ 88.0/ 100.0

Devils switch throttle curve= 100.0/ 95.0/ 90.0/ 95.0/ 100.0
Devils switch pitch curve= 0.0/ 27.0/ 54.0/ 77.0/ 100.0

I have hovered and moved around for about 5 batteries last week to get the feel for the higher head speed( a lot more stable hover and quicker response from the sticks).
Lost about a minute of battery(that is okay cause it is a give/ take thing)

Today in my back yard, I was doing some punch ups and downs at full throttle(yah, I am getting more comfortable), wanted to check the tail hold of my new GY292 gyro with JR DS3400G tail servo.

Tail held pretty well and had a lot of fun moving that Belt at incredible speeds.

After 2 batteries of that, flew my Beam for 3 batteries(what a sweetheart that Beam is).

Popped in another battery for the Belt and the blades would barely move and noise coming from the heli.
Bearing popped out(the one next to the pinion gear).

Took the motor out and super glued the bearing back in and all is well.

I guess it could not take all of that abuse.

I will not give up on the belt just yet.
It is a forgiving machine.

Will test my repair tomarrow with some good yanking around and up and down.

By the way, I have all of my parts coming for my next project.
EXI 500 build.

How are you getting -/+11 pitch on your Belt-CP V2? Not on the stock head I presume...

Barzaun;

Well, all I can say is that I had set my stock plastic head to +/- 11 degrees pitch and my clone cnc head is set at +/- 11 degrees pitch using my DX6i tx...
I am going to see if I can go 12 degrees with no binding issues tomarrow.
I have just assembled a stock plastic head all from new parts for a back up head if and when I crash the cnc head.

What are you asking ?

Clarence

Did you actually measure 11 degrees of pitch? I wasn't able to push the stock head past 9 degree without the plastic O-shaped controlling rods rubbing on the main blade grips. What servos? What lengths on the servo horns?

Barzaun;

Yes, I do own an Align pitch gauge for 300 to 700 size blades.
I have done the direct to swash modification using the Titan servo trays.
I have three JR DS285's on the swash.
Servo horns at 8mm ball distance from center so my rods are straight up and down.
I level the swash and make sure all arms are even and 0 degrees pitch at mid stick.
I go into the DX6i swash mix menu and set the pitch adjustment until I get +/- 11 degrees.
Now as far as potential pitch range, I can get +/- 13 degrees, but get into a binding issue going full left and right.
At +/- 11 degrees it is not too bad, that is why I have stayed with +/- 11 degrees on the stock plastic head.
Although I could get rid of the issue by playing with the aileron swash mix, but I will just keep it as it is.(like I said, my stock head is my backup).

Yes, you got my curiosity up since it has been awhile since flown a stock head, so I put it on this morning and set it up as per the above paragraph.

By the way, the super glue held the bearing in for 4 batteries this morning

I grew up in the Quad City area about 30 miles from Moline in Whiteside county.
Anything to help a brother out

It was tactically done on a no moon night, so very dark.
They could not see me sneak over the border

I want to try a 11t as well, but am not sure how to remove the 10t pinion. Any suggestions? Thanks.
