Have you tried the YEP with the auto startup turned on? I have been running it this way on my YEP 40A without problems.

I've tried every settings with my 2 YEP30A's and they aren't as super slow, smooth and consistent as BLHeli. I know many people don't care if the heli kicks right when the motor starts on spoolup like I do. I want the least stress to my OWB (yes the kick stresses the OWB) and it's always nice to see a super slow smooth spoolup right when motor starts.

Not my intention to thread-jack, but I've got a side-question about using the YEP-30A. For those of you who like this esc, do you have upgraded 6v-compatible cyclic and/or tail servos? If so, do you simply bear with the lower voltage/slower speed performance, or do you use an alternate BEC, like the Castle 10A? I've got a 300X en-route, and already purchased a Savox SH-0262MG for the tail, which is 6v-compatible. With the stock esc, I know I'll either have to be content with it running at lower voltage, or get a BEC, or higher amp esc, which might be too big, such as the YEP-45A (I've read that it's a bit too large for the 300X). I've read also that the P2632 will work on the stock esc, and I have one that I plan to put on my heli, eventually. For now, I was just going to see how it all works with the stock esc, since I'll only be sport/scale flying.

Trouble w/ YEP-30A
I followed Helidudes settings since I have the same setup (except I turned Gov off) - but there is a slight hestitation at mid-stick collective and I have a constant double beep when the heli is just sitting. Any ideas what would cause the hesitation and double beeps?

Double-beep means low-voltage triggered, whether battery has run too low or battery is too weak. What low-voltage setting are you at? I believe stock is 3.1V. Are you on auto cell-count or somehow set to force 6-cell? I recommended high timing to helidude ONLY with governor on and because they can work together in harmony. With governor off, timing is too high if you run flat 100% throttle. Any lower flat throttle curve, you better off bumping up throttle curve AND reduce timing.

Thanks CH
Timing - 24 Brake - Off Cutoff type - Slow Down / LiPo Cut off voltage - 3.1 Auto Cells Didn't know governor worked with these. I'll try lowering the timing. |

If you don't run governor, flat 100% and 6* timing should be plenty fast already (assuming your YEP30A is healthy), perhaps 3400rpm+ at zero pitch.

I'm using: Cut off off Cut off voltage n/a Cells n/a LVC has been proven unreliable on the YEP. That's why I switched it off. So no "double-beeps".

The stock servos run fine on the 5.5V YEP BEC.

18* timing is default for outrunners.
Don't go lower.

You're right, not 6* but default. I've been working on all my Protos Scorpion motor which indeed works best at 6* like Scorpion suggests so I keep saying 6*. Both my Hyperion 2213 (same as Scorpion) and Lynx EOX 2214 run good at 12* though (both suggest 6*).

Thanks. I'll at least fly with the stock servos, starting out. I'm getting a used 300x, with probably 30+ flights on it, so I have a Savox SH-0262MG standing by, for the tail.

set up my yep30 esc with program card
Just got done setting up my YEP30 with program card. I used HeliDudes same settings from page one of this thread. It was easy. I could tell the settings that I changed, stayed changed. But while I had the motor connected to the esc as per the instructions, I never heard any of the beeps that they said would happen. Early in the process, I shut it all down and switched two motor wires, but after re-starting still no beeps. But I double checked all my programmed settings and they are good.
I set the governor to STORE.....which I guess means it stores the P and I gain settings....which I entered the ones previously mentioned above. Then after I get the BX set up I will see how the throttle and pitch curves, if any, need to be tweaked in the DX6i transmitter......OR SHOULD THIS BE DONE BEFORE SETTING UP THE BX? Right now these are still as I had them during my first 70 flights before the crash. Trying to keep it simple for I am a simple man. |
