Default Remote sat reciever on 300x?

Can I use the remote sat/ rec SPM9645 from horizon that their bigger helis use on the 300x? Is there any advantage to using it as far as range / etc?

One advantage is if you happen to have signal loose on the AR7200 it will not show you did, but if you have the Sat plugged up then it will flash to let you know you had lose. if your running carbon fiber frame, boom it is good insurance to have. my fathers fully CF heli has one.

You can certainly use one for peace of mind. But in all practicality it's unnecessary. You'll get more range out of the built-in receiver on the AR7200BX than you'll ever need for the 300X. It will be well out of visual range before you're in danger of losing reception.

I'll put it this way. I fly at an AMA field that is at least 300 yards in either direction. If I fly the 300X (with CF frame) out to the boundaries it's pretty much a speck, but I've never lost reception. My 450X (with CF frame) has an Ikon with a single DSMX satellite and it's never lost reception in the same space. Of course I don't take chances with the X5 (550 size) so it has two DSMX sats.

Another important thing to know is that the orientation of your transmitter antenna is important. You should cock it up at least 45 degrees if you've got one of those transmitters that lets you move the antenna. You don't want the tip to be pointing straight toward the model. If you've got one of the newer Spektrum transmitters (DX6, DX9, DX18) they actually have two opposed antennas that provide much better diversity so you don't have to worry about the antenna orientation so much.

I asked HH about it because my AR7200 short antenna broke at the 90deg. Only had about a 1" left of the shorty. They told me the AR7200 should still be fine but I could run a sat as peace of mind. So I have one on the belly of my 300 along with the AR7200.

We generally can't see the 300 size by the time it will loose bind.
