Default Motor Guru's please chime in.

Going to do my best to keep a long story short.

Built a KDS 550 Innova V2.. Electronics I used were the Hobbywing 100amp esc and an Align 600mx motor.. This motor was used by me in another model months past... After about 15 flights with this Align 600MX 1220kv motor in idle up 2 it started to grind and eat the magnets..
So im thinking ok..fluke thing as all the other MX series motors I have bought in the past did great.

So I buy another ( brand new) Align 600MX for this bird.. On second flight it does the same exact thing.. Once again in idle up 2 it eats the magnets.

My Question.. Why is this taking place ? Why does it happen in idle up 2 ? I enjoy high head speeds on my birds.. But a motor will run to its limit and "should" remain fine one would think yes ? Or am I possibly just running this 1220kv motor to hard ? Would gear mesh being to tight do this to a motor ? ... I just find it all odd because this is the first time in 3 years I have ever had motor problems, And its now two times in the same week.

I have another 550/600 motor on order.. However it's not an Align this time around.

Perhaps the motors are running really hot?

I could see how that would be a possibility.. These magnets looked to be glued to the inside of the can. ( correct me if im wrong please ) ...Only this has been taking place within 30 seconds of leaving the ground. Just not enough time for the motor to get that hot. That and Align MX series motors actually run very cool.. At the end of a flight one can easily palm a motor if gear mesh and timing is set correctly.

I don't know how hot a motor can get in only 30 seconds, but I wouldn't think it would fry that quickly.

Must simply be bad karma. Heh! On the other hand, things tend to break about 30 feet or 30 seconds after the warranty expires.

ESC settings?

Are you sure it is the motor magnets grinding? How does it spin by hand? What if you only fly a flight in idle 1? What pinion on the motor? Gov no gov? Etc?

Gear mesh should never be tight.

What head speed are you running, and how many battery cells?

I'm beginning to smell something...

Kds recs as tight as possible gear mesh don't they? That would def cause that problem. I'd there a lower motor bearing support on that heli.
