Default New to the family...

A while back I was checking out Ghostflyer's Innovas and decided I would get a KDS Innova 550. But only after I get a good handle on FFF with my 450x.

This past weekend I went to the Chopperazzi (In Houston) and met with the KDS Reps. Good bunch a fellas. Except for Ghostflyer. By the way Ghost, thanks for letting me know about the Fly-In.

Anyhow, I bought 5 raffle tickets. I never win anything.

That day was different. I won the KDS 450sd kit! Three cheers and a tiger for me!

It's FBL and has a TT tail.

I've started putting it together. Reckon I'll outfit it with the same servos as on my Blade (see below sig), an Eflite 450 motor, and I think I'll try the E-bar. Haven't decided on a speed controller yet. Guess either a YEP or YGE.

What are your opinions?

My other questions...

1. Can you please explain the communication issues between the E-bar and the DSMX signal. I just learned of this and don't really understand it yet. Is it only an issue if I want to use a governor? Will this product solve the problem: http://www.multircshop.com/site/inde...product_id=599

2. What known issues are there with the 450sd? Anything I can head off at the pass before assembly is complete?

Any information will be appreciated.

Welcome to the club!

I'm jealous that you actually won a raffle lol, I never seem to.

As far as the YEP is concerned, very good choice. I've put it as an upgrade on my blade 450, and the governor is a good addition. Startup is also way smoother than the stock.

If you plan on getting an eflite motor, get the one for the 450x, you'll be happier with the added power (you can always lower the throttle if it's too much for you). If I was you I wouldn't actually go for an eflite motor because their bearings are notoriously prone to failing, but that's up to you. The Eflite servos are a good choice, they haven't failed on my 450 yet.

Not sure I can help you with the EBAR as I'm not familiar with it.

Thanks ZNY.

I'll go with the YEP, thanks to your feedback.. The stock 440h on the Blade 450x has the bearing problems for (I guess) about 50% that are equipped. The Eflite 450 doesn't share that problem and is on par with the scorpion. My 450x people love it.

Can't wait to get this bird flying, but I'm gonna do it on a budget. Buy the electronics over the course of the next month or so..

I'm really curious to see how a different brand of 450 sized heli feels. Corvette vs. Viper. I'm probably not good enough to feel the difference. We'll see. Can't wait!

Honestly the FBL unit is mostly what makes the difference.

Out of curiosity, what kind of pinion gear do they use with the Eflite 450? From looking it's rather low Kv compared to the 4200kv stock 450x motor?

I'll either use the e-bar or the bx. Leaning towards the e-bar...

Here are the pinions. The most popular range seems to be between 10t and 12t.

EFLM60452 Pinion Gear, 10T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mm L
EFLM60453 Pinion Gear, 11T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mm L
EFLM60454 Pinion Gear, 12T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mm L
EFLM60455 Pinion Gear, 13T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mm L
EFLM60456 Pinion Gear, 14T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mm L
EFLM60457 Pinion Gear, 15T 0.5 Module 1/8”mm ID x 12mmL

Yes, it has a lower Kv rating, but the amp draw changes the game;
The 440 rating is 25a continuous, 40a burst.
The 450 rating is 40a continuous, 55a burst.
And the 450 sells for only a couple of bucks more.

All right! Got it put together, no problems. Well, one minor problem... The anti- rotation bracket... The tolerances are too close for the swash and it rubs, causing a fair amount of resistance. I have to figure out how the shave that plastic AND keep it smooth.

Any ideas?
