Lepton vs; Logo 400
Hi Leptonites!
I'm looking to move from a Blade 400 to a 500 size heli and I like Hirobo for the quality - I fly a Quark indoors and love it. I'm looking at a either a used Lepton with stretch kit, Strecker motor, Jive 80+ LV ESC, 463cm MAH blades, DS 368 cyclics, S9257 tail servo. and lots of stuff or a brand new Logo 400 with Hacker motor and Savox servos. These are +/- the same price but I guess parts would be much more expensive with Hirobo? The Logo is new and I'd build it = fun! An easy question : would a Logictech 2100T gyro be good enough for these bigger birds? Anyone have an opinion about the choice used lLepton vs. Nnew Logog 400? What would the differences be between Logo and Lepton? Or are these just a question of taste? I heard that the Logo was nearly indestructible in terms of wear. Is that also true of the Lepton? I read that Finless loved his Lepton in 2007, but now most people don't seem too keen on it. Is it true that the new designs are really much nicer machines to fly? I'm thinking of Protos? I'd love to hear from anyone who has any thoughts at all! Thanks, GF. |

Takes a bit to get the Lepton up to scratch, when your there you will love it. They make a very good light 4s machine, not many other 500 size machines can claim that.

I'd simply say that the Lepton has fewer issues to deal with than the logo has. If you're thinking about flybarless then I'll have some interesting info on that in a week or so as I'm going to be seriously looking into the I2 500 size head for my Lepton. So far, it appears that all will work just fine and may be the best FBL solution for the Lepton.
IMHO I think the protos is a piece of junk with a lot of really poorly executed design ideas and gimiky methods of reducing overall weight but honestly I've never seen one in person or flown one. Mostly, it looks to me like yet another lepton rip-off that failed to reach the Hirobo level of quality. As far as the 2100T goes, I suspect it would work but I have no idea if it's performance would be up to your level of flying. The 3100G or whatever the servo is that comes with it won't be strong enough but I don't know how much of an issue pairing the 2100T with other servos is. Prototype- are you putting some other head on the Lepton to go FBL? You'll have to do a thread on it. Gratefulfrog, I've got Futaba 520 Gyro with MKS 8910 tail servo and thats been the best tail settup I have ever had, can't fault anything in the slightest with these two working together.

I've heard good things about the GY520 but I don't understand why anyone would use it when the DS760 is less expensive and has the same if not possibly better performance.

GY520
GY520 is at this moment one of the best gyro on the market. I have installed in my LOGO 400 in combination with BLS251. It works superb

I'm curious about the metaphor of Logo/Lepton Merc/Toyota. It seems that the level of sophistication of the Lepton is at least equal to the base model of Logo 400, or have I misunderstood - easily possible since I don't really understand!
Let's look at it another way. If one got a kit Lepton and a kit Logo 400 (with Flybar), what would one have to do to make them into "perfect" flying machines, in the opinion of this forum? From what I have read, the Lepton requires some mods on the tail rotor, maybe even the "Stretch kit". The Logo requires upgrades to the main rotor head and it cannot do auto-rotations in any case? Both will fly well with a 4S 3700 mAh LiPo, it seems? Full parts are available for both helis, I've already seen that and confirmed it. Lepton parts are a bit more pricey than Logo, but generally they are of similar order of magnitude and in any case all heli parts cost big money. Is all that true? Anything else to add? Thanks to all who've contributed! It's really not easy to evaluate helis when you can't see them before purchase! Ciao, Bob. |

All a lepton NEEDS is 68mm or slightly larger tail blades which are now easily available from KBDD and the lift kit from MJP. You might want to use the Gaui 550 landing gear on your lepton though as the stock ones are rather squishy.
I personally looked into replacing my lepton with a FBL Logo400 but all the problems you have to deal with on it scared me away. (tail static issues, hardened replacement parts, motor plates, and IIRC something about people unsure which mod gears to use) |

You'll be happy with either. I like the carbon frames, cnc head and a few other things on the Lepton over the Logo, then if you want to go FBL the Logo would be the way to go.

Well Gentlemen, the debate is over: I got a Lepton! I feel really happy about and thank you all for your advice and support. I got it used on ebay and here's the config:
Any more suggestions as to where to get the gyro or general Lepton parts would be great too. Maybe we should create a sticky for Lepton parts dealers? Again, thanks to all! Ciao, Bob. |

Thanks for that gyro but I just came across a used 2100T
I've heard that it is only made for 450 size and smaller. Is that true? Would it be good enough for non-3D use of the Lepton? |
