Default Tuning ....gov on or off?

Do you guys tune with it on or off? Pros and cons each way?
Ikon(what I have) allows for bank switching...unfortunately I still have to leave my throttle curve at a flat line....real pita to keep turning gov off then putting in v-curves then turning back on. I've never ran my nitros with a flat line curve only vees

You will get ppl doing it both ways. I do it with it on and tune it a lot like the Tim jones video. If you pull it hard like he does the motor will be wide open anyway so for me no I do not turn it off but also I used to tune top alcohol dragsters so I am used to doing it

If you're planning on running governor, and you have experience setting it up properly, there is no reason not to break it in and tune it on gov.

On the other hand, if you're not familiar with governor setup, do the break-in and initial tune on throttle curves, as you don't want to be fighting a tune issue when it is really a governor issue.

From the start with nitro, my mentor encouraged to use the gov. Basically never flown without. I drop my curves if breaking in a new engine just to get enough speed to load the engine gently. But normally, I am playing the needles every time out anyway. From cold morning to a warm afternoon will bring some changes. I normally only play with the high needle by then.

Governor on from the first start of a new engine and forever. Never a need to turn it off. Back it up with V curves though in case it ever fails.

Tune it like you will run it i.e with gov on if you plan to use gov or using TH curves if you plan to use TH curves....

Same as it is important to tune the engine for the headspeed you plan to run the most (and actually there are not that many HS fitting each nitro engine but usually one, hitting the motor RPM giving you the more torque/power combination...).

Right. If you don't want to run balls-out, then, go electric

Generally I err on turning the gov off for primary tuning. I keep a normal around for the fact that with an engine powerful enough, you may find you're not going to full throttle in punch outs or that a gov could be hiding spots where the engine goes lean by dropping throttle.

This can put you in a dangerous situation with an incorrectly set high and going after the mid needle or covering up a lean condition that comes out during a truly high load or transistion situation, like fast tic tocks.

You can totally tune with the gov on, but beware you may not be seeing (or really, hearing) the full picture and tuning to the edge or near it will be more difficult depending on the engine and setup.
