Default Trex any good?

Is there anyone with bad experiences? I was looking at a shop then I noticed how cheap it was compared to a zoom.

I sure like mine. I sold my Zoom to buy it and have never looked back!

I've added almost all stuff in a Dutch shop (these are more expensive!) and its even cheaper without lipo's & charger then my Caliber. This is;

Trex 148 euro
4 servo's 40 euro
GY 201 95 euro
Webra Rx 65 euro

This might be a good microheli. Better then FP or those fragile things.

Well, it's very cheap to fly (and crash). I had a bad one a couple of weeks ago when I was doing a climbing inverted piroutte and lost orientation. I fought it all the way down and forgot to switch out of idle up. It hit hard, but only cost about $30US to fix. If it had been my Sceadu, I probably would've spent over $200.

It is tough, too. It's not fragile at all like a Hornet or Zoom. That's part of why it's so cheap to fix - not as much gets broken.

This might be a next heli... its in consideration for now.

I don't like buying a new charger that charges lipo's. Also I want to visit intermodellbau so I need lots of money for that. Also a goal to buy stuff for. Maybe a Trex will be that goal.

I know I'm reading all the threads here now. Then I'll check RR.

So far no bad posts. Even cheaper to crash then my caliber 30.

There is LOTS on RR and RCgroups. You could probably spend all day just on those two!

Also read trextuning.com for reviews. Laurens, were you on the ECO forums in the past?

I don't know about the Eco forums. I've been searching for a Eco 8 in the beginning when I was looking for a way to get into heli's. But I heard they weren't really good. Now this Trex looks good enough for indoor and outdoor.

Ok a little research done. What setup is best for hovering/flips?

I was thinking about the std motor and controller, but 3s2p lipo's instead of just 3s. Is this a good idea?

3s2p is too much juice and weight. 3s is plenty if you use TP2100's.

Depends how much you want to spend...
You can get the new Align 2800 Kv 400LF (has a fan in it) for $42 US at Helikraft. This motor should not have the heat problems that the standard 400s motor did.

www.heli-kraft.com

As Bimmer said, the thing will zip on TP 3s 2100. But I have heard good things about the Align 1800 packs. I'm not sure what kind of premium you would pay in the NL for Thunderpower. You may be better off getting stuff from Asia.

I don't know if you can get an AON motor there but it is my new favorite. (But I'm fickle :? )

www.eheli.nl

that's the shop.

How much do I want to spend? Well for a microheli I was thinking about 750 euro including charger and power supply.

I am giving myself 2 options:
- I don't need the best of the best. I just want something that can fly long, 10-20- maybe even 30 minutes. 3D might be of later usage.

- I need the best. Hacker b20-15l, hot 3D setup.

What would you do?

I must say the the Hacker has not gotten the best press in this heli. Nice site though. It looks like they have a B20-16L clone though for a pretty good price.

I don't think you will get 30 minutes with a Rex. I get about 10 with a 2100 pack.
I would suggest:
GY401 because it holds like a rock and it works great with your transmitter. A 240 will do fine as well.
Pheonix 35 ESC if you plan to stick with 3s lipos. Don't use the governor. Get the Jazz 40-6-18 if you will run 4s.
Find somewhere to buy Hitec HS 56 servos and get 4. They have no slop and center well. You won't like the Aligns.
I didn't see any lipos that fit the bill on that site. They should be no wider than 35mm, have 10-12C output, and a capacity of 1300-2100 mah.
If someone you trust is flying that Hacker clone (EHS B20-3625-16L, BL-Motor voor Zoom 400 en T-Rex 450x ) in a Rex with good results, go for it. With a Kv of 3650, run the 11 tooth pinion. You may need a heatsink. Or give the new Align motor a try. Can't beat the price.
Remember, opinions are like noses; everybody has one!

So no stock ESC because the 25A won't hold.
I was thinking about graupnerC2081 as servo's, because a friend flys them in his pylonracers. They hold well at 300km/h.
Also it'll be the 240 because the extra's the 401 has aren't usefull enough.

I'll get the servo's from intermodellbau Dortmund. Its an international event.
240 secondhand, Trex from Eheli.nl. I still have a futaba Rx which I'll try to fit in.

The BEC stock ESC is marginal. The 35 should be able to handle 4 servos and a gyro fine.
