Default CHP DL frame

Haven't been flying much lately but still have the bug to work on my fleet soooo.... bought the CHP T972 direct linkage frame set for my old trusty 700le flybar bird.

First impression on opening the box was how nice everything was. The carbon frame edges are smooth enough that I didn't feel the need to sand them. Basically just unbolted everything from the stock frame and transferred it over. Kept all the Align electronics at this time but at some point down the road I'll change that stuff out too. Only area I had an issue with was canopy fit. I'm using the pointy v2 canopy and its really tight around the top especially where the elevator servo now resides. If I switch back over to my v1 canopy it'll be a non-issue as that one has a bit more space. Probably could relocate the canopy grommet holes too and fix it that way but for now it will fit with a bit of a tussle to put it on.

Have yet to finish up the head set-up but checking it by eyeball it looks so close that any adjustments will be minimal. Figuring I'll set the pitch at +10.5/-10.5 and get the cyclic at about 8 degrees and see how it feels there.

Really nice frame set, makes maintenance IMHO quite a bit easier (especially taking the servos out). Now I just need some gumption to go try it out and a cooler day. If I can dig out my camera I'll post a pic. Jim

Cut a bit out of the top of the canopy and it now slips on easily. Still touches the elevator servo so I'll probably do a relief cut to let it stick out the side a bit. Like how it looks without the bellcranks.

Flight report. Flies nicely. End of report.

I'm definitely not a 3d pilot yet but really like sport/big air and flying fast. So I don't know if my review will count as much as a better pilot's. With the stock frame I always had a pull to the right especially when really hitting the throttle hard and when doing pogo type manuevers. I trimmed it out the best I could but never could get rid of this characteristic. As I got to be a better pilot I started changing my settings to be more aggressive and this aggravated it even more. I'd gone thru the head and made sure everything was okay and couldn't find anything.

Well, with the new frame there isn't a trace of the pull. Needed one click of left aileron trim and now it flies true. Tracks perfectly thru turns and loops and rolls. So much nicer to not have to compensate for a problem any more. So for me this frame set was definitely worth it. Really like the ease of maintenance too. Jim

I would highly recommend getting rid of the metal servo arms you are using.

The first tip over / crash will strip the gears on the servos.

Use a plastic servo arm instead - especially with a flybar head.

Or, look at the Secraft servos arms. They are aluminum, but designed to bend under extreme stress.
I get them on eBay.

These are the servo arms that came with the kit. I have some Secraft arms on another model so I'll have to check them out. Thanks.

I never could find out what the problem was. All my servos were 90, links were proper size, FB paddles were exactly the same distance. Rebuilt head as it was maintenance time anyways. Levelled swash at zero pitch then levelled it at the top and bottom of its travel. Set my pitch range at 10.5 and set the cyclic at 8.5 (using the swash mix since this is a flybar ship). Went to fly and if anything it pulled to the right even harder. Had all my trims zeroed out too when I did the rebuild. A little frustrating because I have my other FB birds flying nice and straight. The Protos 500 I have is almost like flying a FBL its so locked in. Same with my 2 Fury 55's.

Didn't do the frame change because of this just wanted to wrench on something since I'm in a flying malaise right now.
