Default New to planes

Long story short. I joined (handing in dues on thursday) a local flying club and purchased my first plane. Its a Hobbico Hobbistar 60 MKII with an OS .60 engine.

I have switched out the stock front landing gear for Fults landing gear and had to create my own rears as the Fults were a bit longer than stock and the tail almost hit the ground with the stocks. I also added larger rubber tires. Both of these upgrades were recommended to me by the gentleman I purchased the plane and motor from. Can't wait to start learning. Been flying the high-wing trainer on Phoenix for a few weeks now.

I do have a question. I am using an AR6210 RX with Sat. should I drill a small hole in the bottom of the plane and mount the Sat on the exterior underneath the plane? or do I not even need the Satellite?

If you have a satellite already then it couldn't hurt to have extra insurance, especially if.it's a big(ish) plane as you'll be more likely to fly it farther away from yourself. If you can fly all the basics with helis then planes aren't gonna be that hard for you. If you fly 3D with your helis then a trainer plane will probably bore you soon after you get the hang of landing. Welcome to the darkside (as far as helifreak is concerned anyway), i find planes fun to fly but i also mostly do 3D with them so that helps up the entertainment longevity.

In my experince with Spektrum RX,s if it offer's a Sat. rx Use it, Not sure if it needs be be outside the body, but it should be mounted 90 degrees to the main rx for best result's

I don't fly 3d with the helicopters. I've been away from the hobby a few years and only just getting going again so I'm working on my orientations again. I also don't see having a whole lot of time to fly this plane once every two to three weeks so hopefully it will entertain me for a season

You should be fine then. as far as the satellite goes, it can be internally mounted with no issues. Just make sure that the satellite antennas are perpendicular to the ones on the Rx like you would with a heli and you're golden. the balsa and monocoat won't cause signal shadowing like CF does which is the biggest reason for satellites on bigger helis. odds are very few people push the boundaries of the range of a full size Rx.
